I'm already thinking about my next vacation and I'd like it to include monkeys. My first thoughts were Costa Rica or Belize, though airfare to Costa Rica seems cheaper. I'm open to other options that fit our total budget of $6,000 or less for 3 people for 7 to 10 days. (Bonus points if we come in under budget because I'd love to have some money left over for other uses).

Options for when to go are July, September or waiting all the way until dry season in 2017. Has anyone been in the off-rainy season? Can you comment on whether you can still be out and seeing things? I'm also interested in any suggestions on where to go, how you traveled from place to place and any experiences travelling with younger kids. My son will be almost 4 at the time of the trip.

Thanks guys!

Belize is pretty cheap, I think you can come well under your budget there. We went in May which was pretty nice. We went to the south, I forget the name but they had a chocolate festival during the time, which was interesting.

I've spent time on the Osa Peninsula in CR and love it. It's hard to get to, and quite remote. CR is good for vegan food. The rainy season is hell--don't go then. I've gone in Jan. and it's quite nice.

I don't know about Belize, but CR is not cheap--prices for rooms and meals and transport are about what they are in the US.
