*I'm just throwing this out there to start getting some ideas and plans going.*
I'm thinking about making a visit to Austin, TX for my spring break. I can only stay for 3-6 nights (due to work) but the dates would be somewhere between March 11-21. I'm considering moving to Austin once I graduate so I'd like to scope it out.
The reason for this post is two-parted. 1. Would anyone be willing to meet up with me and show me some of the must sees, especially vegan related highlights? 2. Would anyone be willing to host a fellow vegan for a few nights? This is not absolutely necessary seeing that I could stay with a cousin who is about an hour outside of Austin, but it would be more fun!

Hey,
I think ATX folks mostly hang out at veganaustin.org. I'm sure VRA would love to host a vegan potluck during your visit.
There's tons to do in Austin!

I think SXSW is that week too in Austin. Just throwing it out there, not sure if that might make things more or less difficult to travel downtown.

I don't know if it's during the same week, but I try to avoid downtown during SXSW. I'm a grouch and don't like crowds though. It's probably fun for tourists or people who participate in SXSW.

Oh man, it is that weekend. That kind of sucks, actually. I was hoping to check out the area really well.

I fell in love with Austin during sxsw. I really do hate crowds, too. I get super anxious normally, but it's all very chill. No crazy wild drunk people stumbling around during sxsw. You'll just find nice people trying to see some good bands. More free stuff to do than events that charge and so many other non sxsw things to do. The whole city feels like it's buzzing during sxsw. There's so many great bands, parties, famous people too. Last year I hung out with Sean Ono Lennon & Charlotte Kemp Muhl of The GOASTT, Tim Kinsella from Joan of Arc and Cap'n Jazz, Maps & Atlases and Trail of Dead. I haven't had any issues with safety or been inconvenienced while at sxsw OR just running errands during sxsw. I'd say at least do sxsw once :)

My main concern is that I don't follow music too much so I feel like I might not get the full experience that most people love about SXSW. Of course, I won't know until I give it a try...
