I did! Just the one, or I'd say you should come to the Sydney concert with me! Sorry you missed out; did you see that there's a swap/sale (non-rip-off) site for it? Look on the Chugg Facebook page for the link.

hypothetically if someone were coming back to AU from NL (via the UK for a few days), is there anything that anyone would want brought over? The old me would say speculoos. But then I went to Amsterdam and ate an entire jar of the crunchy one with a spoon in an embarrassingly short period of time and I still feel kind of nauseated by the thought. I bought a jar home with me and had to give it away to a friend. Too much of a good thing does exist.

so, we are having an awesome time in Melbourne, but we caught the 86 up to Preston and found the block from 463 upwards to be boarded over and scaffolded for renovations/re-building/whatever so no La Panella pies for us : ( And we walked up Balaclava in search of Monk Bodhi Dharma to find that a dentist's office at 202 Carlisle Street instead of awesome coffee!! : (
But we had tacos and taquitos at Trippy Taco, fries, onion rings and burgers from LofT and lunch today from Las Vegans bakery. Melbourne is definitely an awesome city, though the husband is most disappointed at the lack of pies I promised him!! : )

That's so weird! I went past there on the bus last night and didn't notice any boarding up... hmmm... Perhaps it's really new! Although, the 86 doesn't actually go past La Panella, cos that's north of Bell St, and it diverges onto Plenty Rd instead of High St (where La Panella is). It's a shame you missed out!

Anyone else drink white wine? I found yalumba wines at my local (Brisbane) bottle shop this week that were labelled "suitable for vegetarians and vegan." Litle tipsy happy dance for me!
Thought you guys might like to know.

Yalumba are great, they have a whole list of their vegan wines online here. A girl I used to work with got married at their winery, it looked super beautiful.

A bit of playing around with google street view leads me to believe we were hoping for pies outside 465 High Street in Northcote, not 465 High Street in Preston.... It was pouring with rain, we had no map and no real idea where we were going, just saw 'High Street' so thought we were in the right place.... I guess we'll just have to return to Melbourne to try again! : )

I'm sorry you missed out, but I was relieved to read it was just a mix-up... on the eve of my heading to Melbourne for the weekend. I picked up a few things from La Panella for two of us to try: an eclair-like cream doughnut, a jam doughnut, coffee scroll, apple scroll, and two little lemon tarts. Tasty! I think more than the flavour, it's that unmistakable bakery texture that really makes them a treat. Rubbish service though, and I say that as someone with extraordinarily low expectations of such things.
Also, Lard of the Fries is of course fantastic. I ate there a few times, and I hope their plans for a Sydney store or two come to fruition.

We missed it for the first time, last night. I saw the tofu-complaining on the ads.. What is wrong with people? If you boil unseasoned chicken, it's going to taste gross, yet they expect tofu to magically just do its own thing?

I recommended my favourite place on Facebook! Apparently the Garden of Unearthly Delights (Fringe thing) also has a place making vegan burgers this year. It's in the park at the end of Rundle St. Bliss Organic (off Gouger St, across from the markets), Zenhouse (off Rundle) and Thea tea house (Gawler Place, off Rundle Mall) are all also good and central. Chocolate Bean off Rundle St and Eggless in Goodwood are both good for vegan desserts too. If you end up down at Glenelg, the Foodworks supermarket on Jetty Road (across the road from my beloved old apartment!) is run by a vegan lady and her husband (at least, I think it was just her that was vegan when we shopped there) so they have groceries and also usually some vegan stuff made up in their deli section.
Are you coming back to Canberra? I totally meant to propse dinner or something but I've been an incoherent stressball with work and job interviews and other stuff going on.

and yep, back to Canberra on the ~31st for a couple of nights before heading back overseas. want to do that? would totally go back to Au Lac

ahh, according to some pictures I just saw online, there's a TV on the wall just near where I was sitting, but I was blocked by a pillar. perhaps that had Supreme Master running on it :(
beyond that, I can't find any other reference. though their logo has "Go Green" on it..

Yep, I go to Au Lac all the time (it's my favourite thing about Canberra) and the TV is only for the specials menu. Anyway, I love it there and I'm sure I can make time for it soon!
Other stuff in Glenelg:
- Grind It cafe is good for breakfast. There's a vegetarian big breakfast option, and they're always cool with you swapping out the eggs and zucchini fritters (which have egg in them) for vegan stuff. So even though it's just a huge plate of veggies and Turkish bread, it's still super delicious. - Goodlife Pizza is decent, no vegan options but they can take cheese off stuff and it's still good. It's all organic and they usually have really good vegetarian specials. - If you have access to a car, there's Godzilla Pizza in Brighton (a couple of suburbs away) which has a vegan menu. I can't remember if they deliver or not. It's like a five minute drive from my parents' place in Glenelg so I go there all the time. - Go to Makis Yiros for falafel! Makis is the mentally unstable owner, he's amazing. I once saw him chase a guy down the street with a knife for taking too many serviettes off the counter, and he once yelled that he would kill our best friend because she wanted hot chips and he didn't feel like making them. When we told him we were moving to Canberra, he hugged me and I feared for my wellbeing but it was still nice. He's awesome.

Makis is plenty nuts. amusing as fork, but disconcerting nevertheless. well worth the price of admission/falafel

Joshua! Are you gonna visit the Melb uni food co-op whilst you're in town? I work all day Tues and Fri, and Wed mornings.
(Oh, and hi everyone! I haven't been around cos no internet at new house yet + Honours + part-time work means not much PPK for me).
