Oh that's too bad, so you will all mostly be gone? I have to stay in the city since I'm with friends but hoped that someone maybe would be around to rescue me.

I'll be around Sunday and Monday. And I'm sure not everyone will be going to the BBQ.

Also, when are you getting in? I'm meeting LazySmurf and some other vegans at one of the vegan food carts on that Friday night.

I get in at like midnight Friday :( Leave Monday morning. Sigh. I wish I had time to enjoy the city for myself and eat all the food! And not have to tag along to endless barbeques. Did I mention they want to go to a rodeo? One actually asked me why I couldn't go. Really?

Apparently we are going to the Iron Works BBQ. Sounds promising. HAR HAR

So I am definitely coming Memorial Day weekend with 6-7 law school friends for a reunion. They have said pretty much that they want to barbeque and go to rodeos and go to Diners, Drive-ins & Dives/Man vs. Food 'restaurants' soooo anyone want to save me and/or feed me? Will anyone be around? Any good concerts going on that weekend? Also, how far away from the city center is the airport? Do I just take a cab? Cab fare will depend on where you are staying. I'm fairly close to downtown and live about 15 miles from the airport. I took a cab from my place to the airport last fall when I visited NYC, and it cost around $35. When I flew back to Austin, I rode the bus to downtown after my return flight and then took a cab the rest of the way home to save $$. The buses have racks for carry on bags & luggage, so don't worry about that. Here is a link to the bus schedule: http://www.capmetro.org/riding/schedules.asp?f1=100

Wait so molly jade are you going to be around Sunday the 29? My friends are actually going forward with planning a trip to a rodeo, so if it is when you are free I'd loveee to meet up and finally eat that weekend with you instaed. Let me know. Also, if not, do you or others have suggestions on what I can do/go to alone? I'm not the type who will sit down at a table of strangers but maybe in Texas I will have a different personality.

Yay ugh I'm so relieved! They are really making me regret going, which is so sad because this is the only time we'll see each other for so long. Supposed to be fun. But all the talk about Man vs. Food places ('they have iceberg lettuce for you! With mayo on it...you eat mayo right?') and all the rodeos just outside the city is making me so anxious about going. So I'm so glad there will be at least one friendly face! (Not that I know your face :) )

My face is made out of broccoli!
What restaurants are they planning on going to? Maybe there are secret vegan options.

I checked the ones they said, it was like 'we don't allow vegetables!' kinds of places. But I'll find out and let you know. Also, we are staying at a house on S. 2nd St. and W. Oltorf St. Is that near anything good? I'm sad that it's across the river from Whole Foods. Google maps says there is a Green Muse Cafe nearby; is that as promising as it sounds?

You are staying really close to Bouldin Creek & Sugar Mama's. Sneak out for some breakfast tacos and cupcakes.

I just googled. If they're going to Salt Lick, get out of going. It's an all you can eat barbecue place and it's 30 minutes out of town. Stay in Austin and go to Whole Foods or get a milk shake at Toy Joy. If they're going to Juan in a Million, there's a vegan food cart next door called Iggis Texitarian.

Iggi's is behind Cheer Up Charlie's, now. They & The Vegan Yacht are just East of I-35 on E 6th St. Both their hours are very unreliable, though.
Mr Natural is still walking distance from Juan in a Million. Try the milanesa & a bavarian cone.

I'll be here too, Randi! We'd (Chris and I) love to join in on any activities, too. We have a pretty flexible schedule so if you ever want a ride to whole foods (which you have to see) or a trip to get cupcakes or check out a food cart, don't hesitate to ask!
we'd love to go out to dinner or have you over! let us know.

I know austin sounds scary because you're hearing all about the meaty places, but this place is a gem for vegans. I think you'll love it.

I tried to find Iggis and Cheer Up Charlies on foot one night while waiting for a friend, but gave up and walked back. I probably didn't go far enough.

Does Bouldin Cafe do take out? I have a feeling I'm going to have to get food from there often but not be able to stay. I'm excited to eat it though!!

They do, but you might need to be aggressive about getting the attention of the staff. They recently switched from counter ordering only to full service, and they haven't quite got the service part down yet.

That being said we tried to go to Cheer up Charlies Monday if this week and they said they were closed on Mondays yet absolutely no indication of this on any website. Slackers.
