Does Bouldin Cafe do take out? I have a feeling I'm going to have to get food from there often but not be able to stay. I'm excited to eat it though!!

They do, but you might need to be aggressive about getting the attention of the staff. They recently switched from counter ordering only to full service, and they haven't quite got the service part down yet.

We went like 3 times and I found them to be awesome, I love the new set up.

It takes me forever to be seated and/or get my order taken there. I love the new set up, too, but they need to have a host person or something at the door. And not forget tables and orders.

What's the Renedict?

Also Question - are there any really great omni tex-mex restaurants with tried and true vegan options? My restaurant suggestions to my friends have been met with 'hell no are we going to anyplace with your kind of weird food' but if it's like known great place maybe they'd be more amenable?
(If not, then I am def ditching them for meals and hopefully meeting up with some of you!)

I think Gueros or Vivos are the two best bets. Gueros has a vegan menu and Ctate's queso. Vivos has amazing tofu puffy tacos (I think you have to ask to leave the cheese off, but I can't remember off the top of my head.) They're both all around good restaurants.

You MUST get ahold of some Red Rabbit Co-op donuts while you are in town. Wheatsville has them. Also, MonkeyWrench Books next to Counter Culture if you end up on the North side. Available Fri-Mon.

Hi all! I leave in 2 days, cannot wait. We are probably spending time in South Congress doing touristy things. What food options are in that area?

Yes! Ask for the vegan menu & get some Food For Lover's queso on something.

Across the street, there should be a couple flavors of Celeste's Best vegan cupcakes at the Hey Cupcake trailer.

I second this suggestion. My favorite is Chalupas a la Celeste, and add some queso on the side. And if you go to Bouldin Creek and can't decide what to try first, the El Tipico with tofu substitution is always a winner. Their tortillas are vegan, and you get a choice of flour, wheat, or corn.

You're staying at Oltorf and 2nd? Bouldin is definitely walking distance from there, but before noon or after sundown - it's going to be 100º all weekend long. Welcome to Texas!

:)

Yeah I looked at the Gueros menu and it looks awesome! Hopefully if I can't convince my friends to go there (they have a 'regular' menu, jerks!) maybe I'll get there with a ppker. So much to do/eat!

Ahhhh ahhhhhhh! I need a big forking hat....I have a parasol. It's pink. I want to use it. I told my mom (who is a sun worshipper, opposite of me) and she SCREAMED at me YOU WILL NOT USE THAT! haha.

Your friends are being jerks if they won't go to Gueros. There's nothing hippie/vegan about it. They just happen to have a vegan employee who advocated for vegan menu options.

You are too cool! Both of you. Thanks for the Tarantino tip (I would know movie stuff better than them so even if it's not true they won't check :P ) and thanks for all the sweet offers. Both of you have mentioned Austin's donut scene, so excited hahaha.

Two of the vegan foodcarts are downtown. Iggis Texitarian and Vegan Yacht. Their hours aren't very consistent, though. Depending on your definition of downtown area, I think Hot Mama's Cafe has the vegan donuts everyone's excited about. It's just the other side of I-35.
