The boyfriend and I are entertaining the idea of going away somewhere for about a week in March. I've had friends push LA, SF, and Chicago, but we'd want it as a relaxing/destressing vacation, so we'd rather save the more hopping destinations for another trip. But obviously we'll want lots of vegan food. Any suggestions?

Yeah, Chicago is cool but it's still cold here in March. If you don't mind that, we have nice museums and stuff. I'd go somewhere warm and calm. With a beach and water.
... but that's because by March I'm so sick of snow that I'd do anything to GTFO of here. San Francisco is beautiful, but I've never been there in March.

I wonder if Asheville, NC is warm by then. If not, maybe San Diego? And yeah, that would be a good time to go to Austin (as long as that's not when SXSW is).

If I wanted a destressing vacation in March, I'd be looking for warm and sunny, personally. I've never been to Austin and would like to. Looks like the average daily high in March is 72.

I agree going somewhere warmish. San Diego can be pleasant during March although my family is reporting the weather has been sucky lately.

Ooo, Austin would be warm. Would we need to rent a car while there?
Portland would be cool, but might be a little too close to the boyfriend's extended family (ie, we'd have to do a round of visits, which would be the opposite of destressing).
I never realized Asheville was so vegan-friendly!
Other thoughts? I don't need warm (being from the northeast), but whoever mentioned beaches has me thinking how nice that would be...

The opposite of warm, but you're really close to Montreal!

I've been to Asheville at least once, one year twice, in the last 3 years. Vegan food is awesome and good options. From the cheezly pizza at Mellow Mushroom to my favorite favorite restaurant - Rosetta's. It is also a total hippy town but can be crowded during major events.

Austin might be warm sometimes it is in the 70s in march but sometimes it isn't. You never know what you are going to get in my experience! The thing is, if you come between March 11-20 it will not be remotely relaxed, the week of South by Southwest is the biggest party of the year so the whole town goes totally nutso crazy.
I like Miami, they have nice beaches and lots of good food. Charleston SC is really nice too.

Pandacookie and Cheezly are in Asheville. That would solve it for me.

palm springs! the weather there is awesome in march (80s), there's a shocking amount of vegan food, and you can go to indian wells to watch tennis if you're into that sort of thing. There's a native foods, palm greens cafe, an awesome health food store with takeout and vegan date shakes in a strip mall, and several of the omni restaurants there offer good vegan options (the falls steakhouse being the most surprising example thereof). It's very, very relaxing there, just be sure to bring along enough reading material because I couldn't find a decent bookstore!

xo kittee Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner; I vote New Orleans! Of course, if you'd rather go north, Quebec City is a great place for a getaway (just pack lots of warm clothes)!

Oh New Orleans, although I couldn't handle it during Mardi Gras. I've been wanting to go. Maybe this year will be the year.

I definitely recommend New Orleans, I LOVED it when I was there a little over a year ago. I couldn't imagine going during Mardi Gras though, it was really crowded when I went in the summer. I'd love to go back when it isn't 105 every day though. And I was there by myself which was kinda weird but nice too..

I'm getting the hell out of freezing Chicago in March and going to Miami (South Beach) - we settled on it because it's warm, a beach town, walkable, there's vegan options, and moderately affordable if you don't need to stay at a place like the W.

Check this out! It's everywhere you can fly to from Boston in March for under $350 per ticket (not sure what your budget is) with an average daytime temperature between 45 and 95F. You can also choose activities you're interested in and languages that are spoken in the place you want to go. Looks like you can go to Nassau for $240 round-trip, and NOLA is only $180! ETA: Athens, Georgia is also (IMO) a lovely town, and they have The Grit! GOLDEN BOWWWWWLLLLLLLLLL

Without a doubt Puerto Rico! We cooked most of our own food and bounced around the countryside. We stayed on a small organic farm (it was a B&B) and a small island, Culebra. If you're okay with some dirt roads and some local food it's awesome! Rain forest hiking, snorkling, sea turtles, sun, my perfect vacation!

new orleans during mardi gras if fine. just stay out of the french quarter until fat tuesday. the parades are completely family oriented along st. charles avenue, even on mardi gras day. bourbon street is the hell to avoid.
