Hey! Us UK people have been inspired by The Gathering that happens in the US every year & we've planned our very own camping extravaganza!

We're going to be staying at a campsite in Dorset ( www.herstonleasure.co.uk ) from the 12th - 15th of August and at the moment we've filled up one large yurt & a tent.

We'd love people from all over the place to come & join us so Euro PPKers & anyone else who may already be in the UK on those dates come & hang out with us! So far we're planning on a trip to the beach, a visit to a Monkey Sanctuary & much eating!

Here's the thread viewtopic.php?f=45&t=5754

I'll think about it. (and will have to look into holiday schedules at work)

The prices for a ferry with the car are just crazy.
Bus - coach is not that expensive but usually exhausting to sit in a bus for that long.

Looks like they've jacked up the prices a bit! Last year we did Calais - Dover and back for € 80 in total.

That weekend is not a good weekend for me unfortunately (holiday time I'm obliged to take ends then, I should be back at work on tuesday). Maybe if I've found another job by then...

I only checked dutch ferry's, I'll look into the Calais Ferry later on.

Eric - I'm on the same train line as the town where they're planning to camp, and I got a good deal on the trains last year from Salisbury through Eurostar to Brussels and then on to Deventer, worked out cheaper than driving across England and taking the ferry to HvH. Alternatively, if you don't object to flying, you might get a good flight from Schiphol to Southampton, which is then on the same train line to the camping place.

You're right, if you go via Calais it's a LOT cheaper.

I hadn't thought of trains because you can't get every where by train and the prices of train tickets are often totally absurd in the U.K (I did a three-four week U.K holiday once, only using public transport)

I assume that if I take a tent that I can book at almost the last minute.... and for the rest it's just quietly processing in the back of my mind.
Do I buy a tent and go by motorcycle, or by car? Do I even want to drive on the road in the U.K? (since I'll have to drive on the "wrong side of the road" )

You had me at Monkey Sanctuary. This sounds amazing.

It's actually http://www.monkeyworld.org/ The other one's totally awesome but miles away!

Veg_Eric I would think if you're coming with a tent you could decide to come closer to the time, I think the site is a little cheaper if you go as a backpacker & don't book.
