Do you guys have any recommendations for a place weekend trip with Bigby? He's getting pretty good around people, but not wonderful, so somewhere not super crowded where I guess we could rent a place and cook our own meals or get some takeout because we couldn't really take the dog out to dinner. We haven't done any exploring outside of the Seattle area yet and we really need to!

Don't trust the internet! i googled pet friendly vacations in washington and one of the options it gave me was tukwila. COME SEE BEAUTIFUL TUKWILA, WA! YOU AND YOUR PET WILL LOVE EXPLORING THIS INDUSTRIAL WASTELAND WITH A SURPRISINGLY HIGH CRIME RATE. (i've been there once for a work meeting)

Mr. C and I often take weekend trips to Cannon Beach. If you don't want to drive quite that far, a jaunt to the Washington coast can be really nice, too. Forks is tainted by Twilight but it's actually beautiful around there, too.

Thanks! We might need to start off somewhere a bit closer just in case Bigby freaks out and won't sleep in a new place or something. The coast would be nice.

I know there are some great trips into the mountains you can take over a weekend, too, but I'm not too familiar with them. I'm an ocean girl.

Thanks! the ocean sounds pretty nice. Bigby doesn't like water so much, but maybe he'd like the beach. Astoria, OR is a little bit closer and it'd be thematic since we moved here from Astoria, NY.

Our best trips with our dog were to rocky beaches that didn't attract a ton of people. He loved swimming (water dog) but he also found smelly tide pools and piles of rotting seaweed to roll around in.

Maybe you can find something like that?

Mrs. Face and chompy have both enjoyed going to Guemes Island. I think it's an easier version of the San Juans.

Don't know about any pet policies.

I just went to Ruby Beach on Monday, in the Olympic National Forest. It was amazing! Thought I was on another planet. Not crowded either.

Ruby Beach is crazy beautiful! Kalaloch Lodge has cabins you can rent that are pet friendly.

Lake Quinault is also really nice. There are rental cabins that might allow dogs. We've stayed at Lochaerie, which doesn't, but I bet if you look on VRBO or something some do. The lodge allows dogs, but might have too many people. Sol Duc might be another place to check out.

There's Seabrook, which is like a purpose-built beach town north of Ocean Shores. I've never been, but I know people who like it.

Port Townsend is nice and supposedly they've had a little vegan food boom recently. There are some very nice state parks nearby (Fort Flagler and Fort Worden) for hikes and beaches and stuff like that.

One thing about Cannon Beach if you do go, it is dog city. Not sure how Bigby does with other dogs, but there are always tons of dogs downtown and on the beach (and lots of off leash dogs on the beach). Which is great! But can be stressful if your dog doesn't like random dogs. Obviously it's more of an issue in the high season.
