I went to Pizza Fusion in Red Bank tonight with my dad. The Daiya is now listed on the menu. So, you get a choice of "vegan soy" (Follow Your Heart) or Daiya. We opted for FYH. Why? Because the mozz is better than Daiya and you know it!

Also awesome: BOYLAN'S SODA FOUNTAIN!

Yay, Central J!

Yah for Jersey! I have the shirt as well (which Tofulish has seen me wear IRL). I heart NJ and am originally from the Garden State.

I like the Pop Shop as well, although I'm disappointed that they still use Teese as their vegan cheese and request Daiya almost every time I go in. Milkshakes are great though! I also love Kaya's Kitchen. Amani's Veggie Garden (formerly know as Zizi's To Go) in Merchantville is pretty good too if you're in the South Jersey area.

new brunswick has the george st. co-op which is all vegetarian & the all-vegan namaste cafe right upstairs from it. the co-op has sandwiches & stuff to grab if you are in a hurry, but the juice bar is very slow. tasty & worth the wait (he makes everything fresh when you order) -- but DEFINITELY slow. it is a nice place to do work (free wi-fi) & hang out though, so the burden of the wait is lessened somewhat.

there's also makeda, which is ethiopian food but not all veg -- though everything vegetarian is also vegan -- and there is also a maoz.

Thanks! I keep hearing about Makeda and I'd love to go!

Also, there are a ton of great cheap Indian places near there (Edison/NB), including an all-you-can eat dosa place... I'll put some of that information up here.

And RandiJM, I'm sorry I didn't respond! Please forgive me?

it is so good! it is prohibitively expensive (for us) at dinnertime, but the lunchtime prices are much cheaper for the same food.

oh yeah! i forgot all about that. our favorite is dosa grill, which is lacto-vegetarian. they have lunch buffets every day & are totally awesome. a few times, they've actually made traditional chicken dishes with seitan for the lunch buffet. this is one of our absolute favorite places to eat in the area, & we eat there so often i didn't even think of it as a thing to mention!

I have to try it!

I almost always go to Sukhadia, and I know there are better places out there now. They used to do fantastic thalis and a lunch buffet (and according to their website they still do), but last time I was there they just had lots of basic snacks and everything was pretty fried and served on throw-away plastic. I still like the people there and they have outdoor seating, which works great for Cuddles. Generally we go to the beach and come back via Iselin for Indian food.

I know a lot of people like Chand Palace - they always have a huge selection of vegetarian things and always have fruit and a vegan dessert - peanut brittle. Our go to in Northern NJ is Bhoj in Elmwood Park. The have a great lunch buffet.

As far as Ethiopian, we generally go to Mesob, but I want to go to Lalibela, which is in South Orange, a bit cheaper and also wonderful.

yes, you should go! & if you let me know in advance, maybe the sunshower clan can meet you there! they do have delicious thalis, but the dessert is almost never vegan. i will eat there for dinner any night, but the lunch buffets are really my favorite time to go.

I would love to! We're out of town until the middle of November, but I will definitely let you know when we go. I love dosas. So much. So very very much.

I'd like to request your recommendations for stuff between the GW Bridge area to the Ridgewood/Ho-Ho-Kus area! my brother's family lives out there and we occasionally drive over from Brooklyn for the afternoon, and it would sure sweeten the deal (especially for my bf the driver!) if we could pick up food afterwards! Something Indian/Ethiopian/Asian would be awesome, a lot of the places I've heard about seem in more out-of-our-way areas like New Brunswick/Edison.
oooh one good thing is Ridgewood has a Pizza Fusion, we enjoyed ordering a pizza from there a couple months ago...

Hey! So there is this hidden vegan gem on the shore where I am from! It is in Asbury and they could definitely use your business in the winter time since they get most of their business during the summer. Anyways, the place is called The Crust and Crumble Pizzeria and bakery. They have DELICIOUS FOOD! It is totally reasonably priced and it is seriously amazing, try their nachos vegan style. The great thing is that everything on their menu can be made vegan, all you have to do is request! Please please please go check it out! It is located in the "shoppes at the arcade" on Cookman avenue in Asbury. Go there and love it! :-)

Hey, one I can answer! There's the Pizza Fusion in Ridgewood.

Dim Sum Dynasty, also in Ridgewood, has a bunch of veg stuff on the menu, and the owners are really nice and will make you practically anything. (I went there once with my parents on a morning when they were just serving dim sum, not the regular menu, and I told the waiter that I was vegan and asked what they'd have, and he listed like two things, but then called the owner over, and the owner asked me what I liked, and I listed some Chinese dishes that I liked, and they made me a bunch of stuff similar to those things but not quite the same, and it was all delicious.)

Natural Way Cafe in Fair Lawn is good for sandwiches and takeout stuff, but it's not really someplace I'd go out of my way to go to.

Lisa's Turkish Kitchen in Ridgewood has several vegan things on the menu. I love their appetizer platter.

Teaneck is sort of on the way between Ridgewood and the bridge, and Veggie Heaven is there. There's also a new place in Teaneck called Shalom Bombay -- it's kosher Indian food, and since it's a meat restaurant, that means that none of the vegetarian things have any dairy. I haven't tried it yet, but the photos on their website look good.

Mela is in Ridgewood, and that's Indian food -- I've gotten takeout there and asked them to make the vegetarian dishes without butter, and they said OK for almost all of them -- there was one thing that they said they couldn't do without butter, but I don't remember what it was. Kailash claims on their sign to have Indian and Thai food, but I don't think they've actually served Thai food in years -- they're just Indian now. They're OK, but I think Mela is better.

I'm trying to remember the name of the really good falafel place in Fair Lawn. After googling a bit, I think it's Perfect Pita, but I'm not sure of that -- I'll talk to my dad later tonight and ask him.

Also, if for any reason you happen to need a vegan challah, Zadie's in Fair Lawn has them. They're called water challah. They've also got some vegan cookies, but those aren't very exciting -- just the usual box of mixed bakery cookies.

There are two Ethiopian places in South Orange: Harrar Cafe and Lalibela. All their vegetarian options are vegan.

There's a nut-free bakery in Millburn called Bella's Bakery. They have a few vegan cupcakes and cookies that are super delicious, but I think they do mostly pre-orders, so their in-store selection isn't huge. The chocolate icing is heavenly!!

Also, HLS in Maplewood is a juice bar and grill with some yummy vegan food and I believe they're opening a location in Montclair.

I drove past the HLS Montclair location yesterday and it seems to be open now.

I went to Sukh Sagar in Piscataway and it was so very good.

Its all veg and they have a great (and cheap) buffet, which includes a dosa of your choice. They have a lot of good South Indian stuff that you won't find in most restaurants that don't cater to Indians. Their cabbage poriyal was amazing as were their superfresh vada and iddly. And Yummy mushrooms manchurian

http://www.sukhsagarcuisine.com/

Plus its next to a good Indian store for stocking up. I found 4lbs of raw almonds for $12.99

Yoicks! You weren't kidding! Mesob is much cheaper (like $4 cheaper for the same thing) and Lalibela is even cheaper than that.

Hi NJ people :) I am going to be in Atlantic City for a week or so later this month...last time I was there options were rather limited, so do you all know of anything I need to hit up? Also, if any of you are around there, maybe we could grab a bite?

When I go to Atlantic City, I am usually with my omni parents, so we go to PF Changs in the Tropicana casino. It's okay, definitely get the tofu lettuce wraps!!

I grew up/my parents live down the street from Via Roma. I haven't been there in a few months, but I think I will have to get a vegan parm or something this weekend when I visit. I really just want to try Papa Ganache deserts. Does anybody know what day they get deliveries? I really want some, yum yum yum. I will also be going to Red Bank on Sunday for the Cinnamon Snail truck!!! I went to Hoboken two weeks ago and hubba hubba, I am in love.
