therefore, i now have a load of them currently being unused.

i have a lot of the short squat ones (16 oz i think? i don't see them on the site here.) and a handful of the medium and 2 large. the moths don't seem to bother with my pasta. (although that can change once everything else is sealed up tight) so for now, i'll keep my pasta in the tall jars also, the kombu was untouched, so i'll keep that in one of these but everything else was absolutely disgusting *shudder*

i was thinking of keeping crafty stuff in them, but honestly, i'll probably put them in the yard sale box if i can't think of anything. they were perfect to put at the back of the counter to hold easily accessible foodstuffs, but i don't really have room for canisters like this anywhere else, not even in the computer/crafting room. :-/ i mean, i have buttons, but they're better in the baggie in the bottom of the drawer. some other things, they would be useless for because of the large lip at the top of the jar.

are there any kitchen staples that a) don't mind being non-airtight and b) are unpalatable to pantry moths? i thought it would have been great for my brown sugar. boy was i wrong. it was worse than the dried stuff, because i could see their moisture trails from having climbed up the inside wall of the jar. GAHHHH!

now that i think of it, i wonder if i can bring them back to BB&B. (i think i actually got them at linens and things, but i don't remember. this was back in 2006 or so.)

I would probably keep pens and random parts of things in them.

We keep our toothbrushes in something similar.

i've decided to take 9 of the shorties back to B&B (i'm sure i've purchased some of them from there. besides, some of the plastic "seals" started cracking, so it's even more legit.)

so i have 1 of the tall spaghetti-sized ones, and 8 of the shorties left over. (they're no more than 3 inches tall.) since the moths don't seem to bug my pasta (for now) i'm keeping my leftover mini pastas in some of the shorties. it fits so well in the pantry. why can't they be airtight?! (someone needs to kickstart a campaign to make actual silicone seals for these things.)

i'm also keeping powdered sugar in a mid-sized one, and some jolly ranchers in another mid-sized one. (i might soon take the powdered sugar out of the one. i saw a moth dead above the clip on my cornstarch baggie, so i don't think they would avoid the powdered sugar.)

I have a bunch of these jars. I mostly use them for dried beans, pasta, tea bags, popcorn .. things like that. I've never had trouble with moths (but I might have just been lucky so far!).

they loved my popcorn. (and they seemed to enjoy my beans too.) i don't know why they didn't seem to eat the pasta. maybe it was too dry, or maybe not enough nutrients? maybe i should investigate my whole wheat pasta closer.

i seem to have kicked them. it's been a full month, and i hadn't seen any flying around. (i did see a dead one with some webbing in my quinoa bag, and i had put a brand new bag of spelt in one of these square containers, and i found some webbing around the edge of the flour, but i wiped it away. it doesn't seem to have come back, and i didn't find any maggots in the lid, so i think i'm safe.)

I have a similar jar that I use for my homemade laundry detergent. But other than that...gifts? Jarred cookie mixes and the like. Then it's up to the recipient to use them for food or not.

i just remembered that i use one in the laundry room to hold my pre-cut method dryer sheets. (1/2 of a sheet is plenty, and they're sticky and smelly. these jars are perfect.)

What about storing nuts and seeds in the freezer?

they're not airtight, so they'll get freezerburnt. :-(

Well, since I'm perpetually five-years-old, my first thought was to get some coloured sand and make sand art. Then you could open a sand art gallery and charge people admission and make a million dollars! I don't see how this plan could fail.
