Sometimes, only knitting gets you through
A couple of weeks ago, my father suffered a massive heart attack. He was on life support for a few days, during which time, family members across the country came to his side. Since he was in ICU, only one or two people at a time could enter the room. And he was given rest in between. So, that left a lot of time spent in a waiting room, with not a lot to do (except chat with long-time-no-see family members. We did a lot of that!)
I heard myself saying, repeatedly, "if all I can do is sit here wringing my hands, then at least they are going to produce something useful and beautiful." It was during this time that I knit a blanket for my soon-to-arrive grandson.
My father passed with his family surrounding him, and a great outpouring of love. And his newest great-grandchild will have a blanket imbued with love for him knit right into it.
"Sunrise, sunset, swiftly fly the years. One season following another, laden with happiness and tears."

So sorry to hear of your loss. Love the idea of the blanket knitted with so much feeling, your great-grandchild will feel very special when he hears about that.

Finished this baby blanket for some friends, and it's on its way to them in Canada today! Good thing it's winter there, because this thing would be way too warm and toasty for an Australian baby born around this time!

From this pattern. For once I actually liked the colours enough not change them!

Nice blanket, Erinnerung!
I'm really excited about these Christmas presents which I (obviously) can't post on facebook, so:
Image
Fingerless handwarmers for my friend, to match the cowl I made her last year. Button closeup, because they're really pretty buttons:

And a coffee cozy (to go with a Starbucks gift card) for my Secret Santa at work:

Is that Red Heart Soft in teal? I have a nearly identical pair that I crocheted for myself last year! Mine don't have that cool button on the side though. Yours are gorgeous! :)

I made my first quilt! (To be totally fair, I did get some help and the embroidery is not mine). It is really too cute not to share. A Christmas present for my Avengers fan

Supercool, kfad! I'm jealous of the recipient of such a gift.

What would you do with leftover white acrylics yarn? ... I went and actually made one of those Chibi Totoro Toys. And now I can't stop going "squeeeeeee!".

Seconding or Thirding this -- almost nothing makes me question my veganism but going into a nice yarn store is so hard sometimes! I just remind myself why I don't use wool, and all is well, but boy those beautiful hand-dyed colors (Malabrigo, etc.) would be wonderful to use with vegan yarn!

Everyone's work is so beautiful and cool! I was going to comment on each one but that would probably be an annoyingly long post.

Yes to this a thousand times! I'm always drawn to the bright Noro yarns and I check the fiber content every time, knowing it's wooly but desperately hoping otherwise!

Yay yay yay, now that my swap partner has received her care package (we sent ours out late) I can post a picture of the mitts I made for her:

This was my first attempt at colorwork and I am pretty pleased with how they came out.

Those are gorgeous! Man, isn't that pattern great? Now I want to make some mitts again. I wonder who could use some mitts. *ponders*

i need a new crochet project that isn't big because i never finish big projects, but something a little challenging would be good. I dunno what to make! I don't know anyone who needs anything and I just made myself a new scarf and handwarmers, so I don't need anything!
