I was going to make a picture guide, but my camera hated me so I made videos! Yay! Hopefully you all can stand my mumbling, bad hair, and poor terminology. I made them very basic, if you want to know how to make anymore stitches, just let me know and I'll show you.
After the cut I'm just doing chain stitches again because I unraveled them when I realized I messed up and I meant to say "however many singles stitches you want on your bottom row you make that many CHAIN stitches plus one"
Double Stitches:
Granny Square Part 1:
Part 2:
I edited this one heavily, hopefully you can still follow it. I was getting tired of my own voice at this point.

I kept this pretty basic because I wasn't sure how complex people wanted it, but if you want to learn more just let me know and I'll make another video. Things I can teach: Decreasing/Increasing Making a ball Making a flat circle triple stitches Back/front loop only stitches (so you can turn) Button holes Puff stitches And a few other things I can't think of right now

I love this thread! I am still a novice crocheter, but I have picked it up pretty quick I think. I just have to wath YouTube vies from time to time if I come across a stitch I don't know. I just learn front & back post double crochet, makes a neat textured pattern. I really want to learn to do mittens, booties and sweaters.

I crochet "like a knitter" -- or at least that's what people kept telling me and I didn't know what they meant until I started knitting... I hold my crochet hook COMPLETELY different than you do! But it's functional and things come out like they're supposed to*. I should record myself crocheting so everyone can go ?@?!?#$
* When I use the correct weight yarn for a pattern and right hook...

Thank you for this! I'm going to watch these vids tonight. I used to know how to do simple crochet and completely forgot, and now I feel like knitting has ruined the way I look at yarn.
I would really appreciate videos on increasing/decreasing and triple stitches. Those are in my patterns and I am having a tough time figuring them out.

Couroupita: I'll make a couple videos of those things tomorrow morning, if you need anymore help just let me know. What are you making?

Maybe that is why I failed at knitting so bad; I held the needles like I do a hook!

like rabid, i hold my hook more like you would a knitting needle. i've tried pencil hold, and i find it far more difficult. actually, one of the things that i like about crochet is that there is often more than one way to do things.

I hold my hook and yarn in the same hand, but it gets the job done! I have taught myself the 'proper' way to do things (I prefer a knitting needle hold if I have yarn in one hand, hook in the other), but it feels so much more comfy stitching the way I originally learned from my mum.
