If anyone out there writes? I just started and I've taken a keen interest.
This is more of a sad one, because both my folks and my crush have known me as straight all along, and think I'm "out of sorts" for having a crush on her. To my folks it's not normal and godly, and to my crush she's completely oblivious but feels that having a girl crush would be so "wrong" and "weird" for a girl who's been straight all along. But anyway. Here goes!
I'm Sick
So put me on quarantine and Label biohazard and keep Ten feet from prodding at my Heart splayed open.
You don't know. See from your Frame a moveable madness Is an infection; malignant mustard Slice off my heart that you don't
Know. Beats for you who will Drive me to my grave with Please don't fall in love with me, get Better, seize the intruder but the heart Must stop.
See from your frame, tinted Violet, my peculiar heart that Nobody knows. Quite nearly prod and Cut. The act.

Ooh, I love this and I would like to read more. PM'ing is good, if you're not comfortable here. I like internet poetry readings.
I've been writing a lot lately but I prefer to have poems sit for years before showing them off. Here is one of my old ones that was published. I wrote it when I was 14:
The clouds are two dimensional, It's nothing consequential. Amazing contrast, Unbelievably vast. Time has turned to punishment, nothing but a sealed percent. The brush strokes do not relent. The boundries have been set. But nothing can be kept, for that there is no except. The tears come once a day, I know they don't heal pain. And to that the world keeps turning, As my fixated heart keeps yearning. More can be found in a grass blade, Than any other lonely escapade. Heaven visits once a year, Making existent even more unclear. The logic of the clocks play tricks, It amounts to ever most sick. An overview of what we have, Will make us even more sad. The proxy has taken toll, Leaving behind nothing whole. Beauty is unthinkable. So is the fact of a soul. Conclusions never come easy. What is there is no more, Just like the ending of endless color. Fitting the margin perfectly, Feelings never felt surfacing.

Hi. I don't write poems too much but I write songs. Here's part of one I'm working on:
Oh darling knit me oven mitts, you're far too hot to handle you can eat my birthday cake and I'll eat the candles and blow smoke rings in your eyes, you're pretty when you cry I am not here to help you Emmanuel
Drawn and drone we'll build our home on the steeper side of hopeless hocus pocus, we lose focus, swapping tokes with ghosts that choke us shake the toaster for the crumbs shave my hair of with your tongue and build a nest between my breasts that hang so sadly Emmanuel

Neat. I used to write poems, I haven't in a really, really long time. This is probably 10 years old. It's about visiting the cottage up north.
---
Islands like oil droplets in a bath of water Spread over the expanse of the horizon
From above Tiny broccoli florets form together and create the fuzzy mass that breathes with the wind Down below Each oak, each pine, each maple Stand tall and proud in their quiet, reflective and calm solitude
The air, an astringent that removes impurities from my soul A ritualistic ridding of negative energies
The great patience of nature Humbles me and I feel like a child, Momentarily still, silenced As Mother Nature scrawls her name in the ripples on the water.

wowowowoww WIMH you (all) are amazing.
I write poems but I never show anyone, they are meant to be spoken but I am terrified of performing so I just record myself in to garageband sometimes and pretend I am not a wuss :) ya'll are braver than I. would it be okay to also turn this thread in to a "really good poetry appreciation" thread? I have hundreds of spoken word videos saved to my youtube favorites.

sometimes I think we could have been a great story
if I hadn’t had to pick up those extra shifts
if you had stopped turning on grindcore at 6 am
if I hadn’t ever moved to chicago and met the first person
of many whose broken heart would break mine
if I hadn’t followed myself back to philadelphia like a ghost of what never happened
if I hadn’t told myself that was what i deserved in every subsequent relationship
if you had hated yourself more
sometimes
like when you would braid my hair and tell me about your day
like when I read to you until you fell asleep
the way our hands fit together
and apart around each other
your biting wit whispered soft in to your glass so only I could hear
the tattoos on your thighs
another thing I got to learn about you
your softness
your warmth in the cold
we could have been perfect
if we had met in the summer
if I had known what it was like to not need you, but want you
if you hadn’t cared
if I had cared more
if the space you left next to me in bed was deeper
if you had loved the poems you wrote more than you loved me
if I hadn’t loved art more than you
sleep more than you
anything more than you
but I will always love something more than you
I have been alone since childhood and don’t think for a second you are going to replace the only thing I care about more than surviving.
I will reach out in the dark for ink and acid an eternity before I will ever think to reach out for you
I will find more comfort in the soft edges of rag paper
than in your kiss
and for that
I am not
sorry.

I was just looking through some of my old stuff and here's an Italian sonnet I wrote as an exercise. It's about honey so of course I thought of youse. Also I should note I wrote this about a year before I went vegan:
DEATH BY HONEY
A fly lay dead in my jar of honey Drowning attended by the Quaker Oats Man, immortal on cereal he gloats While Aunt Jemima may think it's funny That greedy creatures could be such dummies She looks on—or so it seems, a fly floats In golden amber dreams—as one who dotes On saccharine swoons like fools for money
Many believe they will walk on water Fall in whimsy, betrayed by earthly bulk That pulls us under—encumber to sink This tiny fly like poor lamb to slaughter Had he known his honeyed end, would he skulk Or march feckless for death—his own sweet drink?

Guys! I didn't know we had a poetry thread! I've been so inactive!
I'm part of my university's poetry performance crew (which is amazing, I'm in love with all the other members because poetry), and I slammed in our November slam (came in third behind two veteran seniors as a first-time freshman! It was exciting! I'm up for the wildcard decision for our Grand Slam, which is a huge even at WashU and determines who makes our national CUPSI team). Videos were taken, and I'll put the links to my pieces up when our tech people put together our publicity stuff.
I'm so excited about the poets on the PPK. I love you guys.
