Here's a pic of the color I want to do it in. I'm going to try out tencel. Anyone ever used it?

OMG, that's so pretty! (But - in the light of my knitting skills - it looks very complicated and also like a LOT of work... I'm kinda jealous, since I'm alternately reading and sleeping away my weekend. I just can't muster the energy to knit when it's so hot in this damn garret!)

omg, maygles, those are both awesome! you're so good!

I joined a knitting/crochet group at my school and the woman who runs it helped me fix that crochet square pattern so that it's not all wonky.
Here's what I got so far:

How long does it take to crochet a square? It sounds like fun but I don't know if I have a long enough attention span!

I've been making 1 or 2 a day, but it's not like I'm crocheting all day. I just crochet when I'm watching tv and when I'm on the bus or subway. the nice thing is that it's really easy to memorize patterns for these things, and if you make the blanket out of all the same square you'll only have to look at a pattern for the first few!

In my experience, making the individual squares is pretty easy. It's sewing in all those damn ends that really kills the fun.

Belated thanks for all the kind words about the blanket I'm working on. Still. Not. Done. I got stuck on the granny square corners. It had nothing to do with difficulty and everything to do with a mental block. I just didn't want to do it. Finally knocked 'em all out last night. Now I've got a few more rows of white and a finishing row in one of the colors (though I'm having a hard time picking).

omg! that is GORGEOUS! i like the bonus feet in the picture.

and yes, i just decided I need to start sewing in the ends as I go. I am NOT going to want to do that all at the end. so beautiful!

I finished the Crow Prints shawl/scarf (sorry for the horrible pic):

Image

I still need to block it but it's off the needles, ends woven in, etc. I like it! It's small (I knit it on a much smaller needle than the pattern called for), so it's not like a giant triangle hanging off me. It's a little more neck-snuggly :3

Such great work, everyone!
I'm finally knitting again, too - a pair of armwarmers for a young friend who explicitly wanted them to have day-glo green stripes.
Knitting in that colour is actually fun - I can see my stitches even in bad lighting... ;P

Image
(ETA: My cellphone cam really tones down the colours, but I guess you can all imagine what it really looks like... It's like time-travelling to the eighties.)

I'm confused about something. I'm sure it's just me being an idiot.

So, I've done a piece (back of a cardigan) and I should have 82 stitches left for my size. Correct. Then the instructions say:

Shape shoulders.
Cast off 8 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
60 sts (?)
Cast off 8 sts at beg of next row and work until you have 7 sts on RH needle, turn and work 1 row on these sts.
Cast off rem 8 sts
With RS facing, slip centre 34 sts onto a holder and rejoin yarn to rem 18 sts and work to the end of row.
Cast off 8 sts at beg of next row.
Cast off rem 8 sts.

That doesn't add up, right?
I cast off 8 sts at the beginning of the nxt 2 rows = 82 - 16
Then, I cast off another 8 and knit 7? Then turn and work one row on those 7?
Then cast off 8. But if I then put 34 sts on the holder I don't have 18 left, do I?
And why does it say 'cast off 8 at beg of row' and then cast off 8 again? Couldn't it just say 'cast off 16' or 'cast off all'? 'cause I think it ends with just everything bound off.

Ok, nevermind. I looked at the other sizes and calculated and there the numbers make sense. I think the 18 should be a 16 and then it works out. So typo or error in pattern.
