Damn Erica that coat is fantastic.
My Sprog has just painted her room "aquatic" and I am now charged with knitting: seaweed algae (how the fork does one knit algae?) jellyfish anemonies
I have some nice patterns, especially for jellies. I finished the first seaweed yesterday, and I have two old nautiloids i can use as well. I'm not too good at getting the pics from my camera to the interwebz, but when the things are done I'll try to shoot 'em.
In the meantime, if anyone has any other ideas for what kind of critters belong in an underwater den, let me know. Oh, of course, there's an octopus as well.

I'd say algae look a lot like the jellyfish's tentacles, only in various shades of green. Have you tried checking for free patterns on ravelry.com? There are some very nice patterns for squid and octopuses, and I think I vanguely remember a sea-horse or two... Oh and I'd love to see some pics! Very late edit: And starfish! I'd totally make some starfish!

The Bubble Bobble hat still looks (almost) the same as in the pic, and it's "just" a hat. But you made the awesome awesome slow loris, and that's worth a lot! :)

I'm still very much a beginner knitter and I quit for a while because I got frustrated with all the mistakes I was making and having to fix all my screw ups. A couple weeks ago I finally pulled out my knitting bag and started fixing and finishing all of my WIP. I have a hat and a bag I need to finish and then I can post pictures. Right now it feels like I'm spending more time fixing mistakes than I am actually knitting. Bah.

You're all so talented, I'm feeling a little inadequate! I've been knitting for years now, but I haven't moved beyond advanced beginner stuff. I'm working on my first cabled project; a really wide scarf in forest green, and this neat little cowl for a Livejournal buddy of mine: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2722/4532688672_c5cc0d0b3b_b.jpg (not my photo).

some stuff I've finished lately It's called the American Safari Hoodie and is from an old issue of Knitscene. From the back I used some soya cotton for it. Socks using KnitPixie Vegan sock yarn which has sadly been discontinued... This is from the Mr Greenjeans pattern and I used some synthetic/cotton yarn Ruffly shiny scarf/shawl On the needles at the moment are 2 more pairs of socks (one plain and one patterned), some fingerless mits, a short sleeve cardigan that I'm sure I'm going to run out of yarn for before I finish, another short sleeve cardigan with a lace pattern, a vest that I've only knit the ribbing for so far and 2 cardigans and a crochet blanket which are all stalled for the moment. I do try and limit how many projects I have going at once but sometimes I just can't resist casting on for something new... Sewing wise I've been working on winter pyjamas for my kids and a few shirts and bits and bobs for myself. My username on Ravelry is Anna if you want to look at any of the other stuff I've made and I also have another blog where I talk about my sewing and knitting http://finallywakingup.wordpress.comLovely to see what everyone has been working on! Anna

so far i've finished two seaweeds, remarkably realistic if i may say so myself, and two jellyfish, but they require the Princess to sew the legs on and she's lazy, so work has ceased until she involves herself.
In other news, I am making myself a knit camel bag from some old vogue knitting book, i think, and the maude louise cardigan continues to make my tremble in fear. I have been afraid to block it and try to put it together because i'm forking terrified it will be a fiasco AGAIN.
ALSO, how could i forget!! I had a crochet rug made of rag strips on the living room floor, i took it apart to wash it and repurpose the rag strips into a log cabin rug, why is there not a warning on every crafty website to NOT WASH BALLS OF RAG STRIPS unless you're completely NUTS??? They don't dry, they tangle despite being tied into hanks, i don't know what the hell i was thinking.

Could I ask for some guidance? I'm thinking about making this scarf for my mom: http://isomyreallife.blogspot.com/2008/ ... ttern.htmlShe said she bought a really nice red coat this year so she would love it if I knit her a nice black and white scarf for her, and this seems to be within my abilities. But, when switching from color to color, do I just carry the yarn over every time? Since its knitted in the round you wouldn't be able to see the loops in the back it would cause, but would it screw up the tension or make holes? Hope my question makes sense, usually when I ask people for knitting help its really hard to make it clear what I mean.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean! My first attempts at mixed color stuff were disastrous because the tension got weird. I didn't open the pattern but if i am working on something where there are three or more stitches between colors, i lock them down. If you do searches you'll see it also called "wrapping" or weaving ends in, i have a great doc that is literally 20 pages of pics but i can't find it at the mo, you'll have to use this one and scroll down to wrapping. http://www.knitpicks.com/images/pdf/colorknitting.pdf

Thanks guys! Glad I came here, I never learned about wrapping. The pattern doesn't exceed three stitches between colors it seems, but I'll try a test swatch first to try it out.

I made these triforce mitts as a Christmas present for a friend... ...and I liked them sooo much but didn't want to make the same ones for myself, so I started on these today (and already finished the first one): I think I'll switch the colours for the second one...

I'm working on this pattern right now - my first bit of knitting in a while! http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library ... m-nom-cowlThe yarn is wool, but it's my last bit and I've found a ton of acrylic stuff at the weekly market. I'm on the look out for a simple, fairly easy cardigan or sweater pattern since I've never knit a garment before. Anyone have recommendations for a good pattern? I love cardigans, but I'm not sure how difficult they are.

I'm really into this beautiful cardigan and like that it would be great for spring and summer: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library ... t-cardiganI'm wondering what vegan yarn would be a good sub for the merino lace yarn in this one. I want something really comfortable, but sturdy. Acrylic seems like a waste for this one.
