She has apparently been sorted into Gryffindor, and as usual, i am having trouble with colors. (i have trouble seeing and identifying colors, i mean i can see them, but i have trouble comparing them and differentiating them, which is probably why my knitting is all one-yarn stuff, why i don't wear makeup and why all my clothes are black). I got to the yarn store and everything just looked like lipstick red to me, and nobody at the yarn store will have any clue if I ask them this stuff. They already think I'm nuts because I asked for DPNs, which apparently don't exist on this continent. So perhaps her scarf will be totally and completely off. I need to make HER go to the yarn store, I suppose.
Anyway, bisque session over. Thank you! Hah, the people at the yarn store would probably give you the same sort of looks they gave me when I was buying yarn for my Dr Who scarf and would not just say yes to any shade they suggested because it would "go well with the other colours". I'd even brought a screenshot. Yes, why don't you just take your little witch to the yarn store and let her pick the right colours for Gryffindor herself? As far as I know, all the kids who go to Hogwarts (help) pick their own school stuff.

I usually ask for advice on the patterns, and then give them a range and say "pick out a color" because I'm horrible at choosing colors and I want the person to actually wear it. :)

It's Red Heart Super Saver Mexicana. It's not soft, but it's good for stuff like bags and toys!
Meanwhile, I ordered a couple skeins of Bernat Mosaic which should arrive any day now...

PPK, I present to you my latest creation - the Cthulhu Neck Warmer Hat! If the cord is open, it can be worn like a cowl, just like in this picture from the original pattern: And if the cord is drawn tight, it's a hat! Also, this was the first time I knitted an i-cord, and it was so much fun. Like using a knitting nancy, only with two DPNs and nothing else! :D

You guys all make awesome stuff! I tried knitting when I was little, but only to impress my mom (and didn't enjoy it at all). Last week me and my friends got together and they taught me how to knit. I started this today: I know it's not as awesome as what you guys can do, but I am actually really proud.

Hat I made vegimator for valentine's day! It's a 1x1 rib with ear flappies for when he rides his bike to work.

I've been altering trousers I don't wear any more into skirts, since I like to wear skirts with tights and boots in the winter. Today I finished turning a pair of black corduroy trousers into a ruffled skirt and then found a £10 note in one of the pockets! I was pretty pleased.

I'm knitting up a storm. After making a second neck warmer hat thingy that turned out too wide to ever be worn as a hat, I realized I was in love with the yarn. So I've already knit one of a pair of arm warmers to go with the half-botched cowl thing: This is actually really cheap acrylics yarn; it's €1,75 per ball (of 50g). Perfect find!!

That looks amazing!
Have you got any sort of instructions for the neckwarmer thing?
Love, a perpetually cold person.

Love, a perpetually cold person. Thanks! It's basically a not-too-wide cowl with a row of eyelets for the string (k2t, yo - repeat; next row k all). I cast on 130 stitches, which was okay with colourwork but too wide when I just knit plain. Oh and if you want to wear it as a hat too you'll have to start with some rows of ribbing (k1, p1). That's all.

Thanks !
I might go for 120, because I'm rather petite and I already have a cowl which is too wide, so the wind still touches my neck. I was thinking of a project like this as a less fussy replacement for a scarf.

You knit the earflappies, then put the live stitches on holders, then cast on a bunch of stitches, knit across one ear flappy, cast on some more, knit across the other ear flappy, and cast on more and then join. It's from this book: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources ... s-you-love

I rescued a load of vinyl banners that had been used to advertise various festivals around my city, and were due to be trashed otherwise. For ages they were just sitting around my house, but now I've got my sewing machine I've been making little purses and wallets out of them. This is one I made today: Open From the back Closed When I'm practised enough to get my stitches less wonky I hope to start selling them.
