Sidenote:

I made one for a boyfriend in college, and I was really excited for him to wear it to a special Portland-only screening of Serenity when it first came out. Fast forward to the screening, and he'd LOST IT. And then some other douche was there with a much crappier version and everyone FLIPPED OUT and oohed and ahhed over it. I know it is a ridiculous petty thing to be annoyed about but DAMMIT DON'T LOSE HANDKNITS THAT SOMEONE MADE FOR YOU! Especially if they want to show it off to all the other nerds. :P

Maygles I bet yours was heaps better than mine, I was trying to remember how to crochet and I'm pretty sure I made some stitches up as I went along. Also, I may have been drinking (see wine stained lips).

i was just invited to participate in a scarf race- in anticipation of coming winter my local knitting group (with which i have done nothing, but always mean to) has pledged to provide 150 scarves to a homeless shelter. It is a race, and there is some raffle kind of thingie too. Lucky me, I have yarn to use up and lots of time to kill between clients. Muahaha.
I am on #3. I started yesterday. There are some AMAZING quick-to-work-up scarves out there.

ETA: this time i will take pics, i promise. my ravelry is at least 1 year behind on my projects, but when the scarves are done i will photo them all. As well as all my thorpe helmets, which are similar to Caterpillar's hat (sans pompom) and are for donation for a different project.

I keep trying to start a baby vest that buttons up the side and on one shoulder (so it doesn't have to go over the baby's head), but every time I've completed a couple of rows... it just doesn't look as if it could ever fit a human being. How big are newborns? The fact that I'm using a different yarn weight as suggested in the instructions doesn't make this any easier.
Help, please! Who has knitted a lot of baby stuff and can tell me how many stitches to cast on?

And the softest yarn I could find in a nice colour turned out to be ~Sport weight cotton yarn (suitable for 2,5 - 3,5 mm needles).
Is this even doable?

You should try swatching and going up a needle size or two until you get the gauge specified in the pattern (19 stitches and 27 rows = 4 inches in stockinette, or 4.75 sts per inch or so).

Knit a quick baby hat in the meantime: Aviatrix hat!
(It's actually a bright sunflower yellow - I'll have to find better lighting. And I used a soft cotton yarn even though the instructions said not to, and it still turned out perfect.)

CQ that's awesome! I have made one triangular scarf so far, and it turned out, well, maybe not wonky, but distinctly asymmetrical. Yours are always very professional-looking.

And now I'm working on the vest again, this time with 10 more stitches - since the swatch I knitted last night had the right length but not the right width. The yarn is fab though, I just love cotton so much.

I'm still working on getting the edges just right, but most of it is pretty straightforward (3dc+ch1 into each ch1 space, 3dc+ch2+3dc in the center, and then 3dc into the last dc at the end of the row). As long as I maintain gauge, it comes out pretty evenly. :)

I haven't finished this yet, but I'm finally getting close...

It's a throw for my bff and her hubby that I didn't finish for their wedding present last year because I was too busy planning a shower and doing wedding prep. But I have until their first anniversary, right? That's almost 3 more weeks. Finally, I found a nice cable crochet pattern!

This makes me want to start cross stitching again.

It is! It was a freebie from the red heart site (I think), but I can't find the link right now. When I'm at home, I'll check if my print-out has the link on the bottom. If not, I can scan and share with you. If you can do singles, doubles and work front post stitches - it's pretty easy. After the first couple sets of cables, I don't even need the pattern any more. I'm using the caron simply soft acrylic for it and it is super cozy.
