I always open this thread and think I've posted in it, but I haven't. I've been working on this blanket for my cousin's kid, who's due in April. It's just a super simple garter stitch pattern, based off of this Hudson Bay blanket from the Purl Bee. She's having a boy, but I didn't want to do the typical pastels, so the colors are a little more grown up. The shades in the pic are a little off. The blue at the bottom is more of a cornflower blue, the stripe above it is a lighter shade of cornflower, then a greenish teal and finally a smoky gray. This is by far the biggest piece I've done. It's taught me how to correct mistakes, rather than pull out a bunch of stitches or start completely over. I feel rather accomplished! I'm running out of time to get it finished and to her by the time he's born. I'm only about halfway done. Get to work, KK!

Squee, baby blanket! <3
I just finished a baby superhero vest! My brother and his partner specifically requested baby clothes in gender neutral colours - so I made a purple vest with rainbow stripes. I used pure cotton which is nice on baby skin and also comes in the flashiest colours. I even found rainbow buttons at my yarn shop! I don't think I've ever knitted anything as cute as this.
Pics to follow as soon as I can borrow a decent camera! Sadly, mine is broken.

Love the amigurumi Totoros! I have 2 amigurumi books and yet to knit anything from them. My next project is the Freja--I'm going to do it in black and rainbow self-striping yarn. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/freja

I have just finished this http://www.purlbee.com/the-purl-bee/200 ... -vest.htmland realize that it looks rather fugly on me (and in the picture looked a bit frumpy, i don't know why i didn't note that in the first place) I have frogged every single thing i've made for the last year or two, no kidding. I'm starting to wonder what the hell is wrong with me. I've got this nice dark grey acrylic, enough for a sweater, and everything I make is just not good enough (I made the Maude Louise cardigan, it just wasn't right, then the Salt Peanuts cardigan, also not right....) Any suggestion for a cardi or vest that would look decent in a dark grey acrylic [for someone who has some breasts, which seems to be my problem in choosing patterns, since most of the cardis and sweaters seem to be for flatter folks]?

Yay!!! I've knit 2 Jayne hats so far.
Sigh... I am having the hardest time finding vegan sock or fingering weight yarn in vivid colors. I did find Paton's Canadia but it's more of a worsted weight. I wanted to do some colorwork mittens in black and a rainbow variegated yarn. I loved knitpicks.com but 90% of their yarns have animal fibers.

Omigosh, you guys are so talented!
I'm a very novice knitter. I've made a few scarves & cowls, and about a hundred umbilical-cord baby hats.
Increasing/decreasing scares the cr*p outta me.

How do you guys do it? I mean, I can read crochet patterns no problem but when I turn to knitting patterns it's like trying to read Klingon. I guess it's just practice, eh?

i bought myself one of those teach-yourself-knitting-in-5min-a-day but sites like Knitty also explained a lot. i used to feel the same way about crochet patterns, actually.

I never understood knitting even though I tried to get it for about 10 years then when I started crocheting it immediately made sense to me. I know there are some people who think crocheting makes no sense and they are amazing knitters.

I knit and crochet. Does that make me an alien? I guess I'm a knitter at heart, though. There are many ways to turn a heel. Don't give up on socks until you have tried a few. I like making socks from the toe-up because the heel is not as tricky to me. The videos on knittinghelp.com are really helpful when you get in a pinch.
