Mmm, I don't know about olive or sesame oil, I guess they might be too heavy? I've never tried though, so maybe? I guess you want an oil that's easily absorbed by the skin, so jojoba or apricot seed oil might be better choices than olive. I only use almond for massage oil and to make this and other lotion-type things.
The recipe was shared by a friend on another forum and I don't know where she got it, so I guess there is no one to credit and no problem in sharing it. Hope you'll like it!

To be honest, I've always been wary of self-made deodorants, but I will have to try this out. I happen to have all the ingredients on hand, so why not? Thanks for sharing this recipe!

TESTIMONIAL: I've been using homemade deo very similar to this one for more than a year, and I smell lovely. It works for me, even in the desert. Doubters are welcome to sniff my armpits at any time.

I've been seriously falling out of love with my deo lately and have been wanting to try a homemade one. I have a few of the ingredients but not all, I will have to make a trip this weekend to get them! Thanks for posting this!

Anek or anyone: I want to make a shea butter/almond oil body cream or lotion to use up some of the almond oil I have. Would proportions and method be similar except leaving out corn starch and baking soda?

Would proportions and method be similar except leaving out corn starch and baking soda? I had a recipe bookmarked, and I think so, yes... But then I deleted the bookmark because Anek said I should just use the shea butter - and it's heavenly. It's the only comparatively rich thing that turns out not to be "too rich" for my facial skin. And it's better than the best lip balm. (Thank you, Anek!!!!)

I would guess that yes, the proportions are similar, but it would be a fairly solid lotion. I have a recipe for a face lotion at home, I'll check and report back!

For people in the US making this, where do you find shea butter and almond oil?
Also, I assume there's no problem with just leaving the essential oils out? I'd like unscented if possible.
Thanks.

I've seen shea butter and almond oil at Whole Foods. And here in the SF Bay Area I can find them at Berkeley Bowl and Rainbow, too. I'm sure if you have a natural foods grocery store around, you'd be able to find them easily.

4th street food co-op in Manhattan sells shea butter in bulk (meaning bring/buy your own container and fill), which works out to be very cheap. Almond oil I found at a health food store. The shea butter at that store was pretty spendy.

I'll check out some of the co-ops here and see what they have. Thanks!

I've made a similar version with equal parts shea, coconut oil, corn starch, and baking soda. I'd say it works very well on odor. It will help a bit with sweat, but for those who are a little extra sweaty, this probably won't cut it. I found the recipe on a blog a few years back, and was sold when the author wrote that it kept her armpits from smelling like an onion sandwich! Effective imagery!

Done! It's still in the fridge, solidifying. Can't wait to try it out tomorrow. As I didn't feel like looking for expensive almond oil yesterday (t'was about closing time), I took a cheap sample of baby caring oil, containing almond oil, chamomilla extract, glycine soja oil etc. If it's good for baby, it has to be good for me ...

I just whipped up a batch of this using a stick of pure cocoa butter I had hanging out in my bathroom and some jojoba oil. I turned out amazing! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

I'm a week in and I'm in love with this deodorant! It's passed the gym test, the busy day at work test, and the outside doing yard work test. Yay!!
