Me 'n' Maygles are gonna do a sweater knit-along. Anyone want to join us? The sweater is super cute, knit top down and seamless! It's Raveled here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library ... de-ripples and if you're not on Ravelry you can see it here: http://twistcollective.com/collection/index.php/component/content/article/75-fall-2009-patterns/414-low-tide-ripples-by-suvi-simola. (sorry for the ugly url).

I might be casting on sooner than Maygles, but still not for awhile yet. Post if you're interested!!

I've never done a sweater. Would you say this pattern is accessible to sweater n00bs?

i think this is more of an intermediate sweater, since it's got cables n charts. i'd be glad to point you to some good beginner options if you want. top down raglans are great.

I might be interested... I wonder if I have stash yarn I could use. This would make my mom's next b-day gift easy to figure out!

What yarn are you using kittee? And more importantly, what color?

I have a ton of vintage acrylic in my stash, but I have been recently wooed by a LYS here that has tons of vegan yarn. You go in and pick from all these cool choices, and then they ply it together for you. It's cool! But I was thinking a dark grey or navy blue for this one.

another purl soho.... i am getting predictable!!!
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/big-snowy-owl

i have a huge cone of lace-weight slubby undyed cotton that i want to use up, so i am sextupling up the yarn and using that. won't be as big as the pattern calls for but my kid is an owl fan, so she'll love it anyway.

well, THAT gauge isn't going to happen..... (don't have the needles for it on hand) but there's really no need for a foot-high owl either!!! the way it's coming it looks to be about half to 2/3 the size.

That sounds fantastic!

I remembered that I don't love top-down sweaters and much prefer to do them in pieces. I'm going to look through my stash and at some patterns. Maybe I'll knit the same one with you if I have yarn, or this might have motivated me to knit a different one! I do love how the one you and Maygles picked looks... maybe I'll suck it up and knit top-down.

Really????? To me, piecing pieces together is the devil! Plus with a top down, you can try on as you go to make changes for a great fit!

The bulk of it gets me... if I'm knitting pieces I can do it on the T or take it places easier. And I don't mind seaming, I was a sewer way before I was a knitter. I do like being able to try on as I go. I've had one pieced sweater end up way too small (gave it to a cousin) and another that I had to cut the bottom 4" off of to add length in the middle (was faster than reknitting the bottom fair isle pattern).
