Yeah, it's just a plastic model kit, but I built it and am pretty happy about it. I haven't build a model in over 20 years, so this is sort of practice to see if I enjoyed it, and I did. I can work on my tiny workbench for half an hour or so every couple of days after everyone else goes to sleep, so this is something like 3 or 4 weeks of occasional evenings. So yeah, hey, I made a thing. Whee!

You photographed it very nicely too. Thanks-- iPhone and kitchen table. You can't really see that the road wheels have rubber tires, is all. 8) It's 1/72 scale, so it's about the right size to hold on one open hand, 5 or 6 inches long. It's a nice size for my tiny closet workbench...

Pi. wrote: I'm in love with your closet workbench... how perfect, and random, that you have a window!! I know! The closets in this place all have those tiny little windows. From the outside the window for that and the other closet are to either side of the door. The drum throne is because it goes super-low, and between that and the risers under the desk legs the work surface is nice and close. I still drop stuff-- I need the full-scale watchmaker setup where you have a sort of cloth (or traditionally leather, but, you know) basket thing from out the front to catch dropped parts. I'm unlikely to do any actual watch stuff, but I like that sort of setup in general. The drum throne is also nice because, since it doesn't have a back (I'm going to be leaning forward anyway) I can sort of step over it to sit down and not have to work my way around a chairback or anything. I've gotten really fond of the tiny workshop. Unfortunately as the boys get older I'll probably have to give up that room and figure out yet another place to work, but it's quite nice for now. And yes, I'm looking forward to the Emperor being old enough to do projects together. I'm going to wait until he's old enough to be past the "I MUST PLAY WITH THIS AS ROUGHLY AS POSSIBLE" stage. Building cool-looking toy-like objects that you can't actually play with is too much of a cognitive dissonance right now I think. :P I should have pictures of my next work-in-progress as soon as I get a little farther on it, too. It's kind of weird and old and the plastic is a little different so I have to figure out how to hook the tracks on...

That's what I'm working on now, and a size comparison so you can see the measurements on the matt and stuff too.

I got an airbrush! It's a little cheap one, and I'm using canned air because I don't want to drop the bucks on a compressor until I know I'm going to use it (if I use up the 2 cans of air I have I'll buy one since that's the point where it becomes worth the investment). It's SO NICE. Good flat even coats of paint and everything. Here's that last thingy, closer to finished:

Your tanks look like great fun. Mostly, I love the many tags of your closet workbench photo.

I've been busy. I have an airbrush for painting a base coat but I have to use it outside (I don't have a spray thingy and I don't want to fill the house with airborne paint) so since it's been rainy and the boy hasn't napped much anyway I haven't been able to paint these: Maybe this weekend, or now that it's light later I can probably do some outdoor painting after the boy goes to bed at night. Hmmm... My cutting mat is covered with superglue. Icky.

I am more or less finished messing with these: These are the last of the semi-cruddy Fujimi models from the 70's that I'm going to build for a while. I have a couple more, but they're frustrating to build since they're poorly molded and never quite fit right, and the tracks are really annoying to try to work with.
