I need a large ouija board for a project but unable to find one large enough that's less than $50 Ideally it would be large enough to put on table so that 10 people can stand around comfortably.
I'm thinking of typing up the letters and numbers then print & tape it all together but I'm not sure how to mount it. As in the surface needs to be smooth enough to slide a planchette around. I was thinking of laminating the board once it's fully taped up but I don't know.
Anyone have suggestions on building this?
Any ideas on how to build a planchette (the thing that you slide around to each of the letters)?

A lot of teachers make student white boards using shower board from home depot. I dont know what the actual name is, but that's what they call it. You can have them cut to size for you, then use markers nd a clear coat.

i'm researching foamcore at the moment but off hand, is it smooth? it would need to be smooth enough to slide a planchette around.

Foamcore is smooth, I imagine smooth enough that you could move a planchette with felt feet on it around.

Hm.
I'd do paper for the letters like you suggest, and then get a good-sized sheet of 1/8" or 1/4" Plexiglas (acrylic) and put that over the top. Nice and smooth, and you can put whatever you want under it.

i change my answer! plexiglas, ingenious! and then it'll be guaranteed to lay nice and flat. and since it's heavy, it won't move around at all.

althouuuuugh, if sweetT uses REAL glass, anything the planchette is made of will slide smoothly over that shizz.

Real glass would be cool but very heavy and pretty unpleasant if it breaks.
The art store may have smallish pieces. You may have to check Home Depot or a similar store for larger pieces, or you may have a local plastics manufacturer (google for custom plastic) who could sell you pieces cut to size. They usually make things like plexi display cases and stuff for local businesses. If you're in NYC, I'm sure there will be one somewhere around. I mean, if Santa Cruz can support a custom plastics store, NYC probably has about a thousand of them.

wait, why doesn't glue work on foam core? I've used glue on foam core many times for school projects as recently as a year ago. But yeah, i agree with the plexi glass on top of it so you have a smooth surface. If you're still in Queens, there's a Michaels in Woodside for all your crafty needs. It's right off the M/R at northern blvd and a bunch of buses go there, too.

But where are you going to get the unquiet spirit bound to every Ouija board by dark rituals at Hasbro?
