There's an organization here in the Bay Area called Wild Care which takes care of orphaned baby birds. They are asking for donated knitted "nests" for the birds: http://www.wildcarebayarea.org/site/Pag ... t_homepage
It's not necessary to make them out of wool- there are instructions for smooth yarns like cotton, acrylic, etc. There's also the opportunity to make some pouches out of old wool sweaters, if you have any lying around that you don't know what to do with. What's better, they donate nests to rescue groups across the country.
Here is the page with instructions on how to build the nests: http://www.wildcarebayarea.org/site/Pag ... owcanIhelp
This popped up in the news just as I was looking for another craft project. anyone else want to knit/crochet along?
