I need weathered wood to use as a surface in food photography. I've been to a million thrift stores, junkyards, salvage shops, you name it! It's almost impossible to find a nice piece of wood. I'm looking for chipped paint or just beautiful old wood.

So does anyone happen to know someone who specializes in refurbished furniture? I don't know, someone who lives with the stuff and might be willing to sell me some.

I drive by a farmhouse that has a sign out front saying the guy will build picnic tables to order.

If you could find someone like him, maybe in Craigslist, they could prepare something for you.

There are lots of ways to give a piece of wood a faux finish. Maybe they could cut a piece at Home Depot and you could do a stain/distress cycle on it?

I don't know how it is done (other than using the RL kit) but when they sold Ralph Lauren paint, they used to have denim finish paint that would give a rustic, weathered beach boardwalk type look for your walls. If you can find someone that sells the Ralph Lauren paint, you can usually buy the samples for $5, which would be plenty.

My father also used to have a bunch of old wood behind his barn and he was looking to get rid of it. I will ask him how much he has and get back to you if it's still available.

FYI: I'm pretty sure it's pine board (if that matters) and is definitely naturally weathered...it's just been sitting out there forever.

The only other thing I can think of that you didn't mention is estate sales/auctions.

you COULD search for ruined barns..... but should you want to do it legally......

Description: We took down an old barn a few years ago and still have some of the wood (siding) available for sale. it would be great for decorating or for crafts. i did not put a price because i have no idea what it's worth. it has been under cover since we took the barn down.

Torque's suggestion might be the quickest/easiest way to get the weathered wood.

The wood I mentioned above is still there. I'm not sure what the easiest/best way to get it to you would be, though.

Put up a flyer at a feed store!

Where abouts in Nebraska? If you don't need it immediately I know some people in Lincoln and Utica, but they tend to take a while to respond.

Edit: I actually just remembered the Lincoln people are in Turkey, but they will be returning sometime.

coming back to the east coast any time soon? i've seen a bunch of interesting driftwood washing up at the beach since irene. might be an odd thing to try to bring back on a plane though (if you're flying).
