I have a great comforter cover that has a footlong rip in it. It is made of cotton, and sewing just doesnt hold it together. I dont have a sewing machine, but I would like to salvage it.
Any ideas that would work easily? It seems like so many of the solutions on the internet are more expensive than buying a new cover and dont stand up to laundering and drying.

Pretty much any grocery store will have rolls of that iron-on hem tape in the aisle with the thread, patches, shoelaces, etc. You can double up over the top after the first layer has cooled and set. It's 98% transparent after application, but apply from the inside to be safe.

Yep. You need something to stabilize the fabric around the tear, or it will just keep tearing. Hem tape or fusible interfacing are your best bets. They are both machine washable and will only cost a couple of bucks. You can find interfacing at a fabric or craft store.

I couldn't find anything like that online. Just iron on patches that were too small and expensive tape to fix boat sails.
If you have a link to this product online i'd be very grateful and buy it now.
Thank you so much for the advice.

It costs like... two bucks? Shipping would be thrice that. It's so cheap my ol' buddy Walmart only sells it in stores, not online. And I do swear that it's in every grocery store in the world. But this is what it looks like: Or sometimes it's flat:

Fusible interfacing just like the tape Sameness posted also comes in folded sheets, so if you think the tape may not be wide enough to be effective, you can cut out any size you need. I know it's at Joann's, but it should be at any craft store that sells sewing stuff.

For a footlong tear, i would put the fusible stuff on the inside to hold your stitches and then maybe sew a patch over the outside- maybe matched color or maybe totally different. It would sort of depend on the color and where the tear was (if it can be ugly, i would put the tear on the inside and then sew sort of across the rip on the patch to stabilize it).

You can sew a similar piece of fabric over the tear? I noted you don't have a sewing machine. Years ago before I bought mine, I even sewed curtains by hand. But then I like to hand sew. Some people hate to. But it's not hard.
