how come not everything is red? some topics are in red and some aren't.

I actually kind of hate the red. It's harder to tell the threads with new posts from the read ones. Before, my eyes were drawn to the red piece of paper and i could ignore the others. Now, i'm seeing red all over, so it's harder to tell. and then some stay gray and it's not immediately obvious whether I read it or not.

ETA: Okay, it appears that the visited links are the gray ones, but it doesn't seem to always register as visited if I click the piece of paper to just go to the latest posts.

The threads you've opened aren't red, the ones which are unread by you are red. But probably this does only work for lazy people like me who never delete cookies.

No. It has nothing to do with reading it. It has to do with opening it. So if I opened the thread 3 weeks ago and never again, I still have the cookie that I opened it, so it'll be gray even though there are new posts.
But that would be fine. What's annoying is that sometimes you have to actually click the title of the thread to get it gray. Jumping straight to unread posts or the last post in a thread doesn't always make it register as a visited link.
Plus, there are some that I read at work and some I read at home, so it's a big red and gray mess and nothing makes sense. I hate the red.

ETA: Okay, I've been trying to figure out why only some of the topic names register as visited. I think if you click to view page one, it goes back to gray as long as you have that cookie. If you skip page 1 to go straight to the unread posts that are on page 2, it will stay red.

This is the normal behavior of the interwebs. Since the topic name links to the first page, it will only register as visited if you visit the first page. It's based on your browsing history, not cookies. Don't blame the forum, blame HTML!

I wasn't blaming the forum! I was just saying that's why I hate the red! It just took me a min to realize why some things were red and not others. The forum is fab in every way except the red.
