I have an open thing of coconut milk that has been in the fridge for 12 days... should I still use it to make curry? Smells fine, looks fine, haven't tasted it.

The jar was half used. I just don't use a lot of mayo. I actually bought a new jar today because it was on sale ($2.44!), knowing my old jar was expired, and expecting something scary... but it's not scary.

ooh two slabs of tempeh that have been sitting in marinade (red miso and some other stuff...it was for the Tempeh Burgers from American Vegan Kitchen) for approximately 12 days! no, right? after all, the marinade is red so I won't be able to tell if there's any scary PINK stuff on the tempeh!

Homemade silken tofu mayo that I made about a week ago. It's been in a tupperware which has been opened a few times. What do you think?

On the boxes of silken tofu I've noticed it says that it keeps 1-2 days refrigerated. I'm not sure why so short, but I would say your mayo is on the edge for sure even if there is a little lemon juice or vinegar. I wouldn't keep it much longer.

I think if it looks okay it would be okay to eat, but I have a hard time believing it will look okay. I made garlic mayo one time from silken tofu and it went bad in a weekish.

Tempeh that I tossed in the freezer 10 days past the due date? It's unopened but tempeh looks so funky anyway it's hard to tell.

If it's an expiration date, toss it. If not, proceed with caution as it might not taste so great, but it's probably safe to eat.

I wouldn't eat that. Rice that's been out on a counter and not refrigerated is highly likely to make you (or your baby) sick, and it's not worth it. The "operating" temperatures for the bacillus that gives you food poisoning are 10-50 degrees C, and as it's sushi, you're not going to be heating it up hot enough to ensure that it's safe.

Sorry! (As in, "better safe than..."). Can you get someone to run out and get you a sandwich?

I got food poisoning from rice I left out once. Spent a day vomiting and didn't feel well for another 2-3 days.

Does chocolate go bad? Could I still bake with this?

Chocolate does not go bad, but if it's past its best it can taste a little stale. It'll be fine for cooking.

Chocolate doesn't go bad. Sometimes it can get a white, chalky film on the outside, but it's still safe to eat but might not be as smooth -- if I'm remembering right this is called "blooming." If it has anything like dried fruit in it, I would imagine that could get a little funky so I would probably toss it. Either way, I would eat a little bit first, though -- you don't want to ruin whatever you're baking.
