I would keep them, but I would understand why others might now. How long were they out?

It would depend on how long. Two days? No. A few hours? Yes. I would eat it.

In a cooler that warmed to room temp - so maybe a day between fridge temp and back to fridge temp.

I had tofurky slices that had been on a (succession of) plane(s) from Portland to Graz unrefrigerated. They were great. I didn't get sick. ;)

I have a question about the beyond meat lightly seasoned chicken-free strips that I already posted in the beyond meat thread but this seems more fitting!

I have a package that is stamped with a best buy of February 2015 but has a sticker on it that says 8/4. There are green flecks on the strips - are they the light seasoning or will I die if I eat this?

The green flecks are there on purpose, I'm pretty sure!

8/4 is probably just the packaging date? Have faith in the best before date.

I thought beyond meat products had a short shelf life?

Were they frozen or refrigerated beyond meat strips? They're generally sold frozen, I think, but it says on the pack to defrost them before cooking. So if they weren't frozen, maybe the 8/4 was the best by date for after they'd been thawed?

Anyway, I'd probably still eat them.

Miso that was in a refrigerator without power for about 24 hours. The fridge was never opened while the power was off, but I don't want to make myself sick.

They were refrigerated when I bought them! And I refrigerated them when I got home.

I emailed customer service but no response so far.

I've eaten miso that was in the same situation and I didn't get sick.

I would totally eat it. Refrigerators are well insulated so it probably stayed pretty cool in there if the door was never opened. And anyway, miso's fermented. I've eaten miso that I left out all day at room temp and I'm alive.

Good Miso is actually fermented without refrigeration for more than a year, so 24 hours should be fine.

Thanks all!

Rosie, mine said to refrigerate after opening.

It might depend on the miso. The miso I buy comes from the refrigerator at the store, and the packaging says to keep it refrigerated. But I've seen other brands of miso on the shelf in some stores, and I haven't tried those.

My miso is kept on the shelf at the store but says to refrigerate once opening. Nevertheless, since it's a fermented product to begin with, I definitely wouldn't worry about a day out unless you have some specific reason to suspect that it's off.

Refrigerating miso is mostly just to preserve the flavor longer, from my understanding. There probably is some kind of mold that could grow it in given enough time and the right conditions, but bacterial growth is pretty unlikely.

Definite case of I'd eat it, but I'm gross. Your mileage may vary.

I bought some peas and edamame beans from the frozen isle. When I got home I noticed that both bags had a little tear. I thought I checked then before putting them in the cart but I'm not sure. I think it may have happened when they were on the conveyor belt at check out. I had bought a lot of groceries that day and the clerk was scanning the items very fast that many were stuck at the end of the conveyor belt. Are the ok to eat?

Same thing with a plastic bag of dry lima beans, there is a small tear. Should I discard, eat or try to return them?

Update: no info on the mysterious green flecks! But it sounds like they were too old to eat anyways.

Quote:
You'll want to make sure that the date shown on the tray was placed on there from the store as they should be updating the expiration dates based on when they place the product into the chilled section.
