Nog is here! Nog is here! I just saw it at the Berkeley Bowl!
What can we do with nog? Can we bake with nog? What kind of alcohol can I put in my nog? Do cats like nog?
Please to bring all nog-related discussion here.

we just drink our nog as is or put lots o' rum in it (i want to say we use dark rum). either way it makes my tummy happy. :)

Rum in nog! Rum in nog!
Last year, whenever I drank nog (without booze), the Emperor would get a rash. I am really hoping that now that he's bigger, it won't be an issue... because I freaking need nog.

I am super excited about nog ESPECIALLY because I have a whole crapload of rum brought back from the Caribbean earlier this month. YAY nog! :o) (I also like it with Southern Comfort!)
Nog is best sipped from a mug adorned with dancing penguins with cute scarves around their necks -- or a similar cute animal motif. At least in my world.
Adding nog to tomorrow's grocery list!

I saw this post headline and literally said "NOG!" out loud at the office. :)
I love nog and need to start stalking all local grocery stores until I find some.
Nog french toast is amazing, as is nog with brandy or rum.

Word on the street, from people who are old enough to drink, is that it's great with Kahlua. Not that I can actually confirm this. . . ;)

NOG!!!! I had my first nog sighting of the season this afternoon: the pre-holiday season is officially upon us! Unfortunately, we can't get my personal favorite, Holly Nog, here anymore, so I'm still on a quest to find the Perfect Replacement Nog (of course, the addition of the Perfect Rum goes a long way to helping it achieve that status)!

Please tell a newbie like me about nog! What is it? What does it taste like? Is it the same as egg nog but without egg? Fill me in please :) In Sweden we drink mulled wine, with or without alcohol.

The vegan nog they sell in the States is something akin to heavily sugared soy creamer with hints of cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.

Not only does it taste like the distillation (pun intended) Christmas, it's good for what ails you: I swear to the entire pantheon of Norse gods that I once cured the flu with that stuff! (Julmumma is pretty fine stuff, too!)

I've never had vegan nog, but I LOVED egg nog as an omni. Which brand is the best one?

OMG I miss nog so much! Stores here only very rarely have even regular egg nog - no one ever carries vegan nog. I practically lived off of Bryanna's Pumpkin Spice Nog last year. For some reason I can't recall, I had problems chewing and was on a liquid diet, and I pretty much had this every night for my dinner for about a week. And Mike doesn't like nog, so I always get it all to myself! Now I want nog. Dammit.

Mmm..this post encouraged me to just make my own. Unsweetened vanilla almond milk, rum extract, stevia, spices....MMM....not too bad on calories either. That means I can drink more of it! YES!

if no place near you sells vegan nog, i've had excellent luck making my own. for every drink, i do: 2 T coconut milk creamer, 4-6 oz of soy or almond milk, 1 t maple syrup or agave, a tiny bit of vanilla, 1 shot of your preferred nog liquor (i like bourbon and brandy best), freshly ground nutmeg on top of course.
i have tried in the past recipes that involved blending soft or silken tofu -- i do NOT recommend unless you have a vitamix that will pulverize every piece of tofu. when you add alcohol, it looks GROSS in the glass. i also just prefer the taste of the coconut milk creamer over the tofu.

Bird's Custard Powder also makes an excellent nog base. I just boil the milk of choice with a couple spoons of Bird's, then dissolve in some sugar and spices, take it off the heat and add an splash of vanilla.

Oh! Joanna's post reminded me, I recently made nog syrup to put in my coffee and discovered that with heated milk, it's essentially nog. (And it doesn't give the Emperor a rash... I was talking nog from a carton there.) Mine is:
1c water 1c sugar 1 tbsp fresh grated nutmeg (and yes that is a shiitake ton of nutmeg, like an entire nutmeg worth) a cinnamon stick 1 tsp vanilla
Mix the water, sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon together in a sauce pan. Stir til sugar is dissolved. Heat over medium until the mixture boils, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 or 6 minutes. Turn off the heat, stir in the vanilla, and let cool. Remove the cinnamon stick.
Then you just mix 1-2 tbsps of nog syrup into your coffee or your milk or whatever and tada! NOG NOG NOG.
