Amen. I hate stirring it, too. My genius-ly lazy approach to stir all nut butters is to use a hand blender, but only attach one of the beaters to it, insert single beater in jar, flip on the switch + stir it up. Obviously, turn off the blender before you take it out of the jar + clean up is pretty easy. Be careful though! You need to hold on tight to the jar! If there is oil on the side of the jar it can slip out of your hand, so use a towel for grip to avoid this! Otherwise the jar will go flying and nut butter explodes all over your kitchen. I did this in front of my poor boyfriend the first time he came over. For clarification, this is what I mean by "hand blender":

I was very frustrated last night by our little jar of tahini I almost threw it at the wall. Well, in my mind I almost threw it at the wall.
So I commiserate in your tahini woes.

On the subject of the oatmeal: I think I saw on Good Eats or something that foods in taller, narrower containers will boil over easier, because the food/water mixture wants to climb the sides as it's cooking. Conversely, wider, shallower bowls will help prevent this. I make my oatmeal in a really shallow pasta-type bowl and it doesn't boil over on me anymore. Thank god. So infuriating.

unless im wrong, you dont have to refrigerate your tahini...or any nut butters. I have to stir them when I first open the jar, but after that it stays mixed

I usually put tahini in the fridge after i open it because i am worried - it takes me a month or so to use it all since it's kind of expensive for me. Is this thread hi-jacking? Do you need to refrigerate tahini and other nut butters? Now that i think of it, i don't refrigerate peanut butter. But it's not the all-natural kind. :-(

I can tell a difference in taste with tahini and nut butters if they're left unrefrigerated too long. If you're talking a week or two it may be okay, but not for months. Once nuts/seeds are ground up the oils go rancid pretty quickly, unless you're using butters that have hydrogenated oils added to them (which is truly unhealthy.)
Back to stirring, I'll often scoop out most of the oil on top and use it in salad dressing or something. But this only works for the more liquidy brands of tahini & nut butters.

Yeah, this is how I feel about refrigerating nut and seed based butters. May be okay for a short term, but if we're talking months, and I can hang onto my jars for months, then it's best kept refrigerated.

You could just be ridiculous and excessive like me and buy it by the gallon. It's really easy to stir that way!

I've tried a few different brands of jarred tahini, and that brand is BY FAR the worst.

We always buy the Costco natural pb because it's a good price for a giant tub of organic pb, but it takes me like 10 minutes to stir it on first use! It's so annoying. Plus then the bottom inch or so is just hardened pb because all the oil stayed in the top portion that we used up...
