Let's make a list! I want to put together a list of must-try recipes for this year. There are a lot of things that are really popular that i've NEVER made or possibly even eaten. So what are the must-try recipes, to you? I'm also looking for non-recipe specific things like 'make my own vegan sushi' (which i've done, but as an example). The problem is that everything I can think of that is a basic must, or really special, i've made! I think this would be fun for anyone, so even if you think/know i've made it, share anyway so others can put their own list together! Here are some of my musts: Everyday Dish Spicy Italian Sausages: http://youtu.be/4wmNlHOfSrAVegan Sushi Rad Whip: http://www.theppk.com/2011/04/rad-whip/Bryanna's seitan turkey: http://pastebin.com/RLzqtdAqMelisser's Jackfruit Carnitas: http://youtu.be/p_x4x87ncUY (her site is currently down) Whoopie Pies Tater Pig, as made famous by Mike: http://donteatoffthesidewalk.com/2011/1 ... -the-13th/Kittee's Crispy Crunchy Tofu: http://kitteekake.blogspot.com/2007/10/ ... -tofu.htmlTomato Sauce (from scratch): http://www.theppk.com/2008/08/511/Joanna's Minty Fruit Salad, available in her book, here: http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/y ... s/18689931

Oooh this is a great idea!
I think your cinnamon rolls are on my list! I've bookmarked it somewhere, but now I can't find the link...

S'mlove pie! I still haven't made it and I feel like a horrible vegan.
Totterole or totchos. Mmmm, tots.
A really bangin' homemade pizza. I just think it's important.

I'm doing basically this as my new years goals! Yesterday I made AFR's Santuary Dip and tonight I'm making your tempeh wings. Next up are Joanna's Nuggets.

Joanna's nuggets are definitely on the list! I also need to make a mac and cheese recipe besides hers, it's one of those things where I like it just fine, so why would I stray? I'm the same way about the chocolate chip cookies from Vive Le Vegan.
I have also never made or eaten kale chips.

Do they have to be recipes that actually exist, or can they be things you fantasize about veganizing but haven't yet found ingenuity and/or recipe for?

This is a great idea. I aim for 100 new recipes each year (I made 99 last year which is the closest I've gotten so far), because there are just so many fantastic recipes out there. Most recent WOW-recipe: Bryanna's Boursin-Style Spread

They don't have to exist, but obviously things like 'vegan angel food cake' aren't going to make it on my list since my aim for 2012 is to NOT have it be a blur of frustration and tears. Seriously I would knife someone for an angel food cake recipe.

One of my goals for this year is to make my own beer, but along with that... - fermented nut cheese - kombucha - tempeh - cinnamon rolls - bagels that actually look like bagels
I'm going to be doing a lot of fermenting this year, as you can see. :)

I also want to step up the fermentation stuff--especially cultured nut cheese. I also want to put up a lot of stuff this summer and make loads of Indian lemon pickle. We ran out way too soon.

This makes me wish my mom was still around because (besides the obvious reasons) she was an intrepid experimental baker, and if anyone could have done it, she could. For myself, this year I would like to stop being such a wimp about attempting fermented breadstuffs like injera, doses, and uttapam.

xo kittee I have a pretty similar goal! Also, NOT to make jam. I have so much jam it is ridiculous. I can't give enough of it away. I also don't eat toast so that leaves me in some sort of weird space where I put up jams just out of tradition.

And I want you to do these things. (Seriously? If I could make our own pickle, my partner would think I was a goddess!)

That Tofutti ricotta thread made me think that Cashew Ricotta from Vcon should be added to this bucket list. It's the best!

I 'collect' cookbooks more than I actually use them, so this year the goal is to make 5 recipes from every one I own. 5 new ones if I've used the book before.

- Voluptuous Vegan paella (I've been thinking about making this for YEARS, and keep not doing it) - homemade ice cream! - prefect pizza dough, baked on a stone instead of a cookie sheet - bakery style blueberry muffins (the huge ones with the crunchy sugar tops- I don't know why these elude me) - Korean tofu tacos, with homemade tortillas (I've had that magazine saved for a year and a half, I think) - apple cider donuts, for which I'll break my "no deep frying at home" sorta-rule
