So.. what are some of your favorite vegan wines?

All of them.

But I do like Yellow Tail for cheap and vegan. Also, the super duper cheap Trader Joe's aren't bad, either.

I was gonna say Yellow Tail Shiraz cause it's cheap and you can get the big bottle.....

A good, isinglass-free bottle of red is cheaper and more plentiful than water in these parts, so we're pretty spoiled for choice, especially considering I can count a half dozen great vineyards within a 30 minute radius of where I type.

But really, my favorite wine is the glass you hand me.

International wine export being the volume and numbers game that it is, Yellow Tail is cheaper in American than in its own backyard.

Tangentially but not intentionally derail-y, I have a hard time getting my head around the relative vegan...osity of biodynamic production. Which is a shame, because I've never woken up with a hangover after doubly too many glasses of bio, whereas the same cannot be said on even three glasses of Mystery Cleanskin.

We love the Duckpond Pinot Noir. Some of their vintages are vegan. I know the 2006 is for sure.

What is biodynamic production? And why is it's veganness a challenging concept?

I usually stick with Green Truck wines. They're organic and vegan friendly, and usually under $10!

Frey is really good. I'm a beer person and never liked wine until I tried Frey, probably because it's free of added sulfites which I guess were what I disliked abut wine before.

I had some other wine I got from the liquor shop the other week that was marked vegan and also free of added sulfites, but I can't remember the name- will check again soon.

Wikipedia has a pretty good article on it.

A biodynamic winery isn't anymore likely to be vegan.

I'm digging on Seven Daughters right now. They make white and red blends.

Super jealous of all you people who can get wine at Whole Foods and other various grocery stores.

For serious. It's almost too much of an effort to get wine, having to plan a trip to go to an entirely different store . . . almost.

Please don't judge me, PPK, but is there any boxed wine that is vegan? I really only use wine for cooking, and I prefer boxed wine because it stays fresh for longer and is usually more economical, but I haven't been able to find any brand of boxed wine that is vegan. I've poked around Barnivore, but nothing has come up.

Ok, so I checked and the other vegan sulfite-free wine I had was called Our Daily Red:

http://www.ourdailyred.com/

Really good and a bit cheaper than Frey, it was $8.99 a bottle at my store.

ETA: doh, I see masuphl already mentioned it above.

Frey is good.

Our Daily Red is our usually cheap go to. very drinkable and tasty. cant get it from WF in our area though. gotta hit up the package store.

my very fave came from an online shop Organic Wine Company. i forget what exact one it was though. if i find out ill try to post back. check their vegan section. it was more expensive than the $9 typical bottle of wine (not by a whole lot though, and quite economical if you buy a case), but it was really worth it. amazing stuff. got some port from there that was really good as well.

still havent tried Yellow Tail. maybe ill pick up a bottle today if i can find it for a good price.

good. the PPK needed a wine thread!

Question: is there any way to know that a wine is vegan from the label alone? They don't mark wines (or much of anything) as vegan here, and I can't get online to check barnivore when I'm in the grocery store, so I'm wondering if there's any way to know what to look for? I've never seen clarification methods listed on wine labels, but maybe I'm missing something.

It doesn't seem to be available for my android phone. I was actually hoping there was a barnivore app available, but alas.

Where do you find this? I'd love to try it.

ndpittman, I found it at the liquor store near me, off of Thompson Sq in Charlestown. They have a small section of all organic wines. You're in JP, right? They might have it at other stores, I know I've found Frey wine at the Harvest Coop in Central Sq in Cambridge, do they sell wine and beer at the Harvest in JP?

They do! I'll check out there. There's also a small organic section in the Blanchard's in JP. I was randomly hoping you were at the Shaw's Prudential, although I didn't see anything that looked like that when I was there. (I also am pretty sure that I made a fool of myself pacing around waiting for barnivore to load. I really thought they'd have one of the 'truck' wines so I wouldn't have to do any thinking.)
