Recently bought my first container of nutritional yeast and am wondering how best to store it. Right now I have it in the fridge but I'm wondering if that's the best way. I also noticed the brand that I bought has a loose fitting cover that is not air-tight, so I also put it inside a large ziplock bag.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I have mine in an air-tight container on a shelf. You don't need to refrigerate it.

I guess not entirely air-tight, but I keep mine in a washed out pasta sauce jar in the fridge. Also, fun fact: nooch is like crack to bugs so if you store it in your cabinet, make sure not to spill it! I made that mistake once...

I buy mine in bulk and keep it in a giant glass container on top of my fridge.

Thank you for the responses! It sounds like it's okay to store in the fridge or out. But I think I definitely need to transfer it to a more air-tight container.

I store mine in the fridge, because otherwise the cat eventually gets to it, and apparently it is kitty-crack to him. True story.

I buy in big bulk bags on-line. I keep one container of it in the fridge mainly because I have no counter or pantry space in the kitchen and this keeps it handy. The rest is double-bagged in ziplocks in a closet a few rooms away. I do the same with my vital wheat gluten, too. Neither *has* to be refrigerated, but a lot of us do it, anyway.

I use one of those plastic cereal containers with an air tight lid and easy pour flap. I guess I use a lot of nooch.

That's so funny that your cat likes nutritional yeast! Now I'm wondering what my cats would think of it.

Nooch twinsies.

This annoying lady at the grocery gave me a long and unprovoked lecture about needing to keep nooch out of the sunlight (or it loses its B-12), but she wasn't terribly convincing.

Our cat likes nooch too...but he's happy to just sniff it off my place after I eat my nooch/EB toast.

no prob! we have one for nooch and one for TVP. it has a silicone gaskety thing on the inside, so it's mostly air tight. (there's a tiny hole in the gasket, i'm assuming so it's easier to open and close. i guess otherwise, it'll make funny farty noises and get stuck.) i'm happy with it.

I keep mine on the counter in one of these guys. It used to live in the pantry, but I use it often enough that it's easier to just keep it on the counter with my other staple stuff.

If your nutritional yeast has b12 in it, b12 is sensitive to light so you should actually store in in a dark container or cabinet.

I don't use nutritional yeast very often, but I do keep an amber colored jar of it in the fridge for any recipes I might need it for.

We keep ours in a snapware container in the cupboard, and any leftover in a bag in a sealed bucket out in our shed with our bajillion other sealed buckets.
