does popcorn without palm oil exist?

ive been trying to think of snacky things i can have in the house other than yummy delicious candy and i thought id buy some microwave popcorn and it all had palm oil.
some had "organic" palm oil but i figured that was probably still bad.

Look for bearitos brand or you can make your own. I have a microwave popcorn bowl I use.

I used to make mine in a pot but now I have an air popper, which are pretty cheap. You can also find directions online for making your own popcorn in a bag in the microwave.

I stopped buying microwave popcorn and now exclusively make it on the stove. I've never looked back. It's so good! And pretty cheap. I've turned some of my omni friends onto stove-popped, noochy popcorn.

I just pop mine on the stove - easy peasy!

I make mine on the stove, it's sooooo much better :) And cheaper than buying ready made.

+100 for stove or air popping! Another great thing about either method (but particularly air popping) is it's much much much harder to burn your popcorn.

I always do it on the stove as I always burn it if I do it in the microwave.

I forgot you could do it on the stove. That seems to be the way to go. I think my parents used to have an air popper a million years ago I'll see if they still have it

you can place a 1/4 of a cup of popcorn kernels in a brown paper bag and fold it over tightly. i read this works to make your own microwave popcorn. never tried it - i do not use a microwave.

I do this, using about 1/3 cup per bag and a glug of olive oil. The only thing is, I always end up with tons of unpopped kernels but still, it makes quite a large individual serving anyway. I guess it's wasteful but we only crave popcorn a couple times a year...

I do the paper bag method. It's much easier than the stove method, though the stove popcorn tastes better because oil.

If you really want microwave, Quinn brand popcorn has a bunch of vegan flavors and doesn't use palm oil.

Pop it on the stove in melted coconut oil, then dump nooch all over it. You will never look back!

I never had good luck with the paper bag method but the air popper we received as a Christmas gift is used about a zillion times per week. We love it!

I love the Quinn sprinkles, but I always have better luck with my popcorn maker. That was a gift and I would never have thought to buy myself one, but we love ours! Sadly it will spend the next couple years in storage. :( But it's a Cuisinart and fairly well designed. I like that it can go in the dishwasher.

THANK YOU for posting this!

My picky omni kids and I were huge buttered-popcorn-lovin' people, back in my pregan days (Movie Theater grease and all). Since I dropped the animal products (nearing 2 years), I've made stove-popped popcorn - and also microwave bag-popped - topped with melted vegan butter and nooch, sometimes a bit of miso. When sharing with the kids, I have to leave off the nooch and miso, as they always complain.

After reading the post above, I popped some fresh kernels in virgin coconut oil (unrefined, with the coconut flavor/aroma), and salted it. That's all, no butter or anything else. Omni teens were skeptical, asking me to douse with butter - but I asked them to just TRY it. Both went insane over it, absolutely killed the huge batch I made. No butter necessary (and this includes my daughter, who insists she "HATES" coconut in all forms...! She asked me repeatedly, "are you sure there's no butter? It tastes really buttery." And it DOES! And yet none of the "damp"/butter-logged pieces one gets when pouring the butter over the top - much nicer and seemingly lighter, with all the rich and salty glory).

Gracias, Desdemona!

Have always had luck with the paper bag method. 1/4 cup in the bag, folded over a few times. Microwave until theres a few seconds between pops just like the bags from the store. No oil added until done popping.

okay, since we're talking about it. I need help with my kettle corn!!!

i make popcorn on the stove with a turning pot (you turn a crank and it stirs the kernels in the closed pot). i like to make kettle corn
(recipe: 1c popcorn, .5c sugar, 1T or so salt, maybe 1/4 oil)
the recipe says to throw it all in together, which used to work. then it started becoming caramel corn. then it started scorching.
so i started adding the sugar later and later in the process. it started scorching earlier and earlier.
now even if i throw in the sugar just as it starts popping, it still gets scorched and is a disaster to clean.
does anyone have any suggestions for kettle corn? i love it, and i just can't seem to get it no matter how i try.

the only thing i can think of is that a few times i've used marg instead of plain oil, so i will try with coconut oil next time and see if it makes a difference. if y'all have any other feedback i'd appreciate it.

Like this. And if your bag isn't staying closed, one staple in the top is safe in the microwave.

I use the paper bag method, too. It works great. I have been putting EB in the bag before popping, but I think I'll try coconut oil. I've always liked the idea of kettle corn, but have always found it cloyingly sweet. So, I think I'll try the coconut oil to see if it tastes a little bit sweet, but not overly so.

Could someone provide amounts of coconut oil (pre melted?) to corn kernels?

I follow this method with coconut oil:

Top with smoked salt, nooch, smoked paprika, pepper, garlic powder and STUFF YOUR FACE.
