This. I was introduced to tempeh long before going vegan because my mom loves Indonesian food, and I loved it right away. Maybe you just need to experience what it can taste like in the hands of chefs who cook it every day. Or like vijita said, maybe you just don't like tempeh, and that's ok too!

I am turning my omni partner onto tempeh
Last taco night we had tempeh tacos and he really liked them
Cut into strips Steam (in microwave for 6 minutes) then drain Marinade for 30+ minutes: mexican lager, cumin, garlic, chopped chipotle in adobe, mex. oregano, little bit of olive oil. Fry in a non stick pan with cooking oil for about 10 minutes until brown/crispy. Turn heat to high, add rest of marinade and let reduce down
Put in tacos with slaw and avacados. Was really good. I am glad he likes tempeh, because I am really into it now. Took awhile though.

I think the best way to start off with tempeh is crumbled in BBQ sauce (Sloppy Joe). Dice some onion start sauteing in oil, Steam cubed tempeh for about 5 minutes I like to wet a little sprinkle Mrs. Dash presteam, drop tempeh into the skillet with onions and break up into crumbles with spatula and brown, Mix in a smoky BBQ sauce until well covered cook a few minutes and serve.Tastes better the next day.
Tempeh Fajitas
• 1 (8 ounce) package five-grain tempeh • 1 cup pineapple juice • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice • 2 teaspoons ground cumin • 2 teaspoons canola oil • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper, divided • 1 garlic clove, minced • 2 cups vertically sliced onions (1/2-inch slices) • 1 1/2 cups slice green bell peppers (1/2-inch-thick slices) • cooking spray • 1/4 teaspoon salt • 4 (8 inch) whole wheat tortillas • 1/4 cup salsa Directions- Before marinating steam- I suggest marinating overnight. Cut tempeh in half crosswise; cut each half lengthwise into 6 strips. Place tempeh in a shallow dish. Combine pineapple juice, soy sauce, lime juice, cumin, oil, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, and garlic in a small saucepan; bring to a boil. Pour pineapple juice mixture over tempeh. Marinate at room temperature 30 minutes or up to 2 hours. Prepare grill. Lightly coat onion and bell pepper with cooking spray; sprinkle with salt and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Arrange onion mixture in a wire grilling basket coated with cooking spray. Place grilling basket on grill rack; grill 5 minutes or until lightly browned, turning occasionally. Remove the tempeh from marinade, reserving marinade. Place tempeh on grill rack coated with cooking spray; grill 2 minutes on each side or until lightly browned, basting occasionally with reserved marinade.Warm tortillas according to package directions. Arrange 3 tempeh pieces, 1/2 cup onion mixture, and 1 tablespoon salsa down center of each tortilla; roll up.

i dont like tempeh either and i think i mentioned somewhere in this thread that the only way i have enjoyed it so far is the middle eastern shawarmas from vegan table. i made this the other night and enjoyed it too. i think the key to enjoying tempeh (if you dont like it) is to have a good sauce. with this one if you get enough sauce on it you dont taste the tempeh. this was really good but a couple of times i did get a bite of tempeh with not enough sauce and i was like "EW TEMPEH FLAVOR!" http://vegnews.com/articles/page.do?pageId=1508&catId=11

I bought it in Australia (VIC) and it says "Vincent's Vegetarian". It's a long narrow yellow packet and I bought it from an Asian grocery store.
Thanks for the reply :) if you can find Primasoy, it's up there with the best tempeh I've had. if you're in Melbourne, go to the St Kilda farmer's market, and you can buy it directly from them Or, if you're somewhere in Aus where you can get Tallyho farm's "ready-to-eat" style tempeh, try that (they're a WA company, but I know I've seen their stuff in Melbourne). Seriously, their marinade is the best, and their tempeh is amazing. Many a hippie picnic in Fremantle was just not complete without this staple. That said, I usually just make my own from scratch now and it beats the storebought kind any day.

I don't know if you are still on your tempeh quest but I wanted to let you know there is a book on Amazon.com called "The Book of Tempeh" with lots of recipes and all you'd ever want to know about tempeh. If you can get the oldest edition I read that it has more recipes. I just bought the older copy and stocked up on more tempeh I am look forward to trying out all the recipes.
