Next sunday we will have guests and I need to cook a menu for 4 grown-ups and 4 kids. I am a newer vegan and do not have so much experience in combining from my new books. I thought about making Almost All-American Seitan Potpie from the veganomicon. Maybe with mashed potatoes and a green salad? Do you have any ideas for a matching dessert? What do you think would be great with this potpie?

Lemon bars; hard to go wrong with those.

maybe tacos or grilled veggie burgers? You can make nearly everything ahead of time, and its so easy to make a really tasty vegan spread that omnis will like (if they are omnis). Right on with those lemon bars!

Are the guests vegan, veg, or omni? I think general consensus around here is to be cautious serving seitan/tempeh/tofu to omnis if they aren't used to it. The last time I provided dinner to omnis I made a big vegetable chili with lots of toppings to choose from, and I think I'm bringing a vegan tomato pie to the next omni potluck I go to. If you go with the pot pie, I'm sure that your side dishes will be gobbled up, and I agree that lemon bars are so yum! There is also always chocolate . . . if you're serving All American seitan pot pie, chocolate chip cookies would probably be a fitting dessert!

Oh, I did not think about that, our guests are omnis. So maybe better a chili? That soundes good, too. As I am living in germany I dont´t have a chance of offering burgers or cookies as dessert, though I love them. They would be considered fast food and I know our guests would probably wait for the "real" menu :-(( In amerikan cookbooks that always sounds wonderfully uncomplicated. An I will try the lemon bars this week, if they are so good.
