I have never bought sprouted tofu. But, I just opened a pack and it is frying and everyone says it smells funky. I think it smells like strong cheese. I am guessing it is bad?

That would be my guess. It shouldn't smell any different.

It got worse after cooking a few minutes. We took it outside to the trash. Just had veggies with rice instead.

Yeah, we get it fairly often and it is actually pretty much indistinguishable from normal tofu.

Ick. My sprouted tofu also looked, smelled, and tasted exactly like regular tofu. Maybe even better since it was Wildwood and all I have access to around here is Nasoya.

I just had the same thing happen. It smells just how you described. It's the Organics brand from Safeway and the best by date is Oct 1st. I hadn't ever had sprouted tofu that I remember so I wondered if it was just a smell it had, but I think I will err on the side of caution and assume mine is bad too. :( I was jonesing for some tofu too. Sad day.

Yeah, I can really detect no difference between sprouted and non-sprouted tofu.

If it's stanky, it's bad.

Some people like their grains sprouted. If you look around, you'll find sprouted grain bread and stuff too.

I suspect there are no benefits, but if you think it tastes better eat it.
