I need your help. I want to host a mustard tasting party but unsure what to serve with the mustard. Preferably vegan. ;)

Some thoughts already: pretzels and beer.... not really a fan of vegan sausages, unless you think otherwise.

Also, let me know your favourites recipes with mustard... and your favourite mustard. :)

I love mustard with chik'n nuggets/strips. Meatballs, seasoned mildly, could be a good dippable item.

Are we talking sweet mustard or dijon mustard? Because I can only help you if it's dijon!

I absolutely love mustard in mashed potatoes, but I'm not sure how well that would work for comparative tasting purposes, so how about serving on potato scones?

I also think mustard in a burger/hotdog bun with onions is awesome. It's what I used to have as a veggie kid at fairs before there were routine veg options, so maybe caramelised onions on bruschetta or something would be good, if you wanted to partify that idea, then different mustard could be squirted on top?

As to favourite, I like them all, though English mustard is my go-to because a little goes such a long way.

We have eight different mustards, mostly Dijon but we are loving a new Ballpark mustard that was gifted to us. I am also contemplating making my own to see how it compares..

Loving your ideas, guys! Share the mustard love!

Pretzels and beer are absolutely the answer! We did this once and it was fun. I made freshly baked big soft pretzels and had about 4 or 5 different types of mustard and a few different types of beer. You could also just put out little stick pretzels if you really want to focus on the mustard, but hot baked soft pretzels are so good.

pierogies or seitan sausages are my favorite things to dip in mustard. i'd maybe do the sausages for your guests even if you're not that into them. definitely pretzels are a good idea. oh and maybe pigs in a blanket

Besides from eating with a spoon, I enjoy my dijon in a mustard vinaigrette: dijon mustard + white wine vinegar + a pinch of salt + a little sugar + freshly cracked pepper + olive oil, all whipped until emulsified. Serve as dressing for a potato salad, a french lentil salad or a green salad.

The bierocks from the sammich book are really good, and it recommends serving with mustard. You could probably make them mini for your party.

What about the chickpea cutlets from VCon, perhaps diced into a more "finger food" like approach?

They are hella good and work perfect with mustard!

Try some "burns out your sinuses" English mustard, whatever you do! It's like yellow, delicious-er wasabi.

little pigs in blankets! Made with soft pretzel dough!
Pretzels (soft, and little so you can dip them easily) and beer sound like a very good first step.
Baked baby potatoes?
I also really like mustard and cheese, if you feel up to making a sharp cheddar block you can cube and put on toothpicks or something.
Pierogi.
Maple-mustard BBQ sauce, on something.

That was going to be my suggestion too! Cubed cheese with mustard to dip in is a standard bar snack in this area of the world, so I was going to say that if you live somewhere you can get blocks/wedges of fairly sturdy cheese (Daiya? Wilmersburger?) you could always have cheese cubes.

Dropscone, I also love mustard in mashed potatoes! I really like mustard vinaigrette on salads, and mustard in my "tuna" salad too.

This sounds like a wonderful idea. I love mustard on and in everything. One of my favorite pairings is dijon mustard and avocado! Usually I have that on bread but I've also been known to just smear mustard on half an avocado and eat it with a spoon. Especially delightful with some freshly ground black pepper.

Cornichons (or any little pickles) are also great with dijon! And my absolute favorite dip for french fries (or oven fries) is stoneground mustard. Mmmmmm.

mustard glazes are good on a lot of vegetables, so maybe bite-sized chunks of roasted veggies for dipping? that would probably be best with some kind of sweet-hot mustard.

Maille dijon is definitely the best kind there is.

Raw beets would make an excellent way of tasting the mustard.
Or rye bread sticks.

I have eaten quite a number of things with mustard in my time.

I love a baked potato with mustard worked in, so I agree with all the suggestions involving potato. You could do
any sort of thing that makes a potato into a workable size. The point is to mix to potato-ness and the mustard.
I also agree with Corduroy on the maille mustard as a top pick.

I have also been known to enjoy popcorn with mustard, though it does make the corn lose its integrity if you let
it sit around at all.

i'm really liking this thread. back when i was actively couponing, i overloaded on french's yellow mustard, gulden's brown and maille's whole grain, so this is really giving me a lot of good ideas to reduce the stash. thanks!

Pigs in a blanket - veggie dogs in crescent roll dough are easy and yummy
Veggie sausages w/ sauerkraut and/or caramelized onions
Grilled cheese - maybe cut into slices? (Am I the only one who loves grilled cheese w/ mustard?)
Pierogies also w/ sauerkraut and/or caramelized onions (there are cheap, frozen accidentally vegan ones at some stores)

As for favorite mustard, any dijoin is delicious. If you can find any dill-dijon, a couple brands are tasty. Also, there are beer companies that make mustards w/ beer in them - all have been good that I've tried!
