Step two, take initiative and look for vetted sources of information from the medical community, news media, and books- but keep a healthy amount of skepticism. Contrary and often blatantly false nutritional information is propagated through every corner of the internet, so use Google scholar to search peer-review journal articles, limit the search to the past four-five years, and find articles like this
