So, I'm pretty familiar with cooking most standard beans with good success (pintos, black beans, etc). But for some reason cooking kidney beans they always split on me and lose their pretty shape. Does this happen with anyone else? Is there anything I can do to make them look pretty like storebought ones?

I've tried pre-soaking and just cooking straight from dry, and it does the same thing both ways. They still taste good, but they just look so... unappetising and mushy!

Are you cooking them too long or boiling too high?

Sometimes that means the beans are too old...have you kept them awhile? Or are you possibly buying them in bulk somewhere where they don't have very high turnover?
