so im making cookies and im using my kitchenaid stand mixer and all of a sudden it starts making horrible noises. at first i thought the blade was hitting the metal bowl but it's not. it sounds like something is loose in the motor. it sounds like REALLY LOUD knocking noises :-(
it kind of went away and then did it again in weird repetitions and then stopped. it's not doing it anymore but now im freaked out.
i *just* got this for xmas last year. it's a professional model because amazon had an awesome sale. ive used it many times but it's not like im cranking out 600 desserts a day.
im digging through cabinets looking for the manual. has anyone else had this happen?

I don't know what the issue is, but I'm on my third Kitchenaid mixer (because of upgrading, not because they died or anything) and have always had GREAT experiences with their customer service. Once I had a problem with a mixer a few months after purchase, so I contacted Kitchenaid and they sent a new mixer to me immediately, and paid for me to ship the old one back in the same packaging. It's definitely worth contacting them.

Mine started doing that once, it turned out that the metal screw (would you call it a scew?) in the back that connects the top part to the bottom was coming loose. I just shoved it back in and all was well.

i checked on the screw in the back and it seems nice and tight. i may just call them. it's not doing it any more but it was really loud and it sounded like something like fell inside the motor compartment. ill see what they have to say!

I think there's a screw somewhere if you flip it upside down. It may not be there, but it's somewhere weird (not the mixer height adjustment, not the pin thingy on the side) and I've had to tighten mine twice over the last 6 years.

hmmm...i didn't look at it that way. i just saw the one in the back. i will have to look at it upside down tonight and maybe that screw is loose. that would make this easier!

mine has that pivot pin thing, that is the pivot point for making the head go up and down, that damn pin is constantly working its way out and i have to hammer it every other use. probably protesting being used almost every day.... it also is misaligned but my mom (who had it before me) said it was always like that. Not sure. You'd think Mr Torque the mechanic could look at it for me but........ seriously there are some awesome videos on YT for DIY kitchen aid tuneups.

That pin thingy works out of mine every time I make bread. I don't even think about it anymore, it's almost automatic to check it when I check my bread. That's not the mystery screw, though.
