I bought some Five Spice powder from a shop thinking I remembered it in a number of recipes which I have now seemed to not be able to find. What are your favorite recipes for using it?

I just bought that to make Five-Spice Delicata Squash in AFR. I haven't tried it yet but it is the perfect time of year to attempt it!

Last time I followed a recipe that called for it was Chinese Mock Duck made from tofu skins. I also usually put a pinch in my spring rolls. Most recipes call for such a small amount of it that I will never work through my jar.

I was thinking of trying that recipe this week, but what are you serving it with? I can't think of anything at the moment. Sorry to derail slightly!

I think it's used in the Acorn squash, pear, adzuki bean soup w/smoky shiitakes from Vcon.

I hadn't really thought about it. My fiance doesn't care for squash so I might just be eating it in snack-size portions at work.

This is great. I've had five spice forever and have no idea what to do with it except frequently mistake it for allspice. Don't do that.

I wanted to do a bean dish though, maybe some kind of lentils?

So far all I've really done is put it in my tofu scramble every once in a while.

I remember I bought a bottle of it a million years ago for a VWAV recipe. Maybe the jerk seitan recipe?

It's used in the dipping broth for the Vietnamese Dip Sandwich thing in Vcon, too. I'm sure I use it for other things, but I can't think of any right now! That means this thread will be great because it is probably an under-used spice mix in my kitchen.

Also I know there is a recipe for Five Spice Cookies in one of the Isa books.

i haven't tried any of them yet, but there's at least one recipe in Hannah Kaminsky's Vegan Desserts that uses five spice, and Dreena Burton also has a five spice cookie recipe in ED&BV.

I use it in stirfrys, especially ones with tofu.

I just put some in my ramen because I don't like to use the whole broth packet (too much sodium).

I can vouch that the five-spice snaps from Vegan Desserts are really good!
I have also used it in butternut squash curry, definitely recommend!

I always put some in squash soup. It's also good in tahini sauce.
