I don't have a waffle iron -- I've hinted to hubby that I would like one for Christmas -- so I'm wondering if some of the waffle batter recipes I'm seeing in vegan cookbooks can be used for pancakes instead? I have yet to make up any of the waffle recipes, but I'm wondering if for some reason the waffle batter is a bit thick, I could just thin it out a bit to create pancake batter???

am also wondering, for those of you who have a waffle iron and really like it, can you share the brand and model with me?

I've had no problem using waffle batter as pancake batter even without thinning. The only recipe I can vouch for personally off the top of my head is that chocolate beer one in Vegan Brunch.

i'm just bumping this up, now that i have the vegan brunch cookbook i'm drooling over the waffle recipes.

for those of you who have recently purchased a waffle iron, can you tell me which one you have and maybe provide a direct link to yours online like if you bought it at target or bed bath and beyond???

whoa, that price is out of my budget, but wow, what a beauty that waffle iron is! i hope your girlfriend makes you lots of tasty waffles!

For a more moderately priced option, this is the waffle maker I got my mother a few years ago. We don't make waffles at that often, but it does a pretty good job. I've never had problems with waffles sticking like I did with the old waffle iron, and it creates a nice, crisp golden outside to the waffle.

I got this one at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It does a good job, and when we had a waffle breakfast at work last month, the waffles cooked in mine were the crispest and cooked the fastest.

The only thing I don't like about it is the plates aren't removable, so all you can do to clean it is wipe it out.

Also, I don't know whether this matters to you, but it's not Belgian. It makes the regular thickness waffles.

I have this one as well. I really like it. It makes waffles nice and crispy on the outside and works incredibly quickly. You can also adjust how much it browns/crisps your waffles to your preference. I got mine from Amazon.

glad that y'all both have it and like it. is it annoying/difficult to clean? i have no idea if any waffle makers are made where the waffle bit can pop out for easy cleaning.....

too bad my local store does not carry it, maybe i could have used a 20% off coupon unless it was a restricted item

It's actually not that difficult. The plates are non-stick, so everything comes off easily as long as you spray it with oil before you pour the batter in and cook the waffle until it's done enough to hold together. The only problem I could see happening would be in the case of either trying to cook without oil, or perhaps wafflis interruptus, wherein you would have to wipe out wet batter.

i'm really surprised that this particular waffle iron has such varied online prices -- walmart has it for $60 (!!!), amazon.com has it for the same price but says it is at a deep discount since they said it retails for $70+!!! qvc has it for $48, etc....

i wish my local BBB has it in stock but they do not. i just don't think they carry it period because it was out of stock when this thread began and still is now. guess i'll need to order it online.......

My waffle iron is an Oster Belgian Waffle maker that was like $30 and it works great. Even has an adjustable temperature control. Waffles can take a while to actually cook sometimes but I've never had a problem with it. I think it's from Walmart or Target - you can probably get one anywhere.

thanks for the tip, your model got mixed reviews on target, and it's only available online and not in the stores. i've been dropping a couple of hints to my hubby about the BBB waffle maker so maybe i'll get it as a gift for V-day ;) if not, i'll buy it for myself after ;)

I received this waffle iron for Christmas. I haven't used it yet, but it has great Amazon reviews. Generally speaking, I prefer the ones that you can flip like this one so that you have even batter distribution, creating a more even crust and browning.

still waffling about buying a waffle maker online ;)

i think i've settled on this one, although it's not available locally so i will need to order it online.... anyone have this one?
