so my friend had some dental procedures and was given shots in the top of his mouth and says they ache a lot so it's been difficult to eat solid food. i think cold stuff maybe be a bad choice too. any ideas? what would you like to receive as a surprise liquid meal?

If you think cold is a bad idea, how about smooth pureed soups/bisques? Now is the time to make butternut squash soup anyway, and black bean soup would be good for getting some protein in. Actually, those two would go great together. I'd eat a bowl of each side by side. Maybe a cream of broccoli soup, completely pureed smooth, for some green veggies. You could add soy milk or even silken tofu to that for more protein. And maybe pudding would be a nice soft treat that is not as cold as ice cream or shakes. Applesauce might also work.

something that's not too thick to drink through a straw. i think i'd appreciate pudding the most.

Aw, poor friend! I'll be going in for maxillofacial surgery sometime in the next year and have been told I'll be eating alot of soups, juices, smoothies, purees. It got me to trying all of them and loving them, just to prepare. But, yes, I think the less spicy or acidic, the better, too, since everything is still healing.

There are a lot of good suggestions already. I like mashed potatoes! In some situations, cold stuff might feel really good, and I would want frozen yogurt. (Cold is often nice for oral surgery, not as good for other dental work.)
