Don't know if any of you have tried Gardein's new stuffed turkey, but I saw it at Whole Foods. I found this blog post about them. She doesn't like them, but I'll give them a shot. http://chicosandbeans.blogspot.com/2010 ... turky.html

I tried it and thought it was pretty good.

it's just o.k. the stuffing is really pasty.

I wish some fake meat company would make a forking fake turkey without the stuffing. Because that's always the worst part.

I had high hopes for these because in past years Whole Foods has sold some kind of similar thing made from Gardein and it was good! But I don't know if they're the same.

I bought some this weekend but haven't tried them yet. Expensive little buggers though!

they seemed the same to me. fee, these things are basically the gardein chikn cutlets with stuffing in the middle, so . . . wish granted.

Insofar as I know (I work for WF), they're the Field Roast Seitan en Croute. At least it's true for the Chicago stores, and I would assume the whole Midwest Region. Other regions may have other products, but that's what my region sells.

I just looked it up, and the store near me is still selling the Gardein roast (I see that it's a different online menu for Chicago though). Bummer because I wanted to try the Field Roast one! I know I could order it online, but... eh.

I haven't seen these yet, I'll have to look as I'd like to try them. I haven't tried the Field Roast turkey but I have had Tofurkey and I wasn't a huge fan.

I don't like Gardein in general so when I saw these this past weekend, I wasn't tempted. They are pretty expensive too comparatively.

It seems like in terms of pricing, Tofurkey is cheapest, Field Roast is second and Gardein is most expensive. I may make my own seitan roast because it is pretty quick and easy to do.

I have had them a couple times and I like them. I even fed them to my omni fiance and he really liked them too!

I did see a Field Roast roast in the freezer section at my store that was just ready to go (it was right above the giant Tofurky display). If you can't find it there, you could wrap the FR roast that's found in the Prep Foods section in puff pastry. It should be essentially the same. Honestly, either of these methods is cheaper than ordering through the catering department if you want the whole roast.

If you can't find that, ask at the service desk if they can order one for you. Whole Foods is really good about fulfilling customer requests. But like I said, different regions have different suppliers, so your store may not be able to carry it. Good luck!

Thanks! I'll ask the next time I'm there. It's always a dilemma for me to choose a "main" that will get the least amount of "What is THAAAT?" from the omnis (including my sister-in-law's family this year), but I thought the en croute part at least made it look fancy!

i liked the turkey part, but agree that the pasty stuffing needs to go. not worth the cost

That's probably the only good thing about the Vegetarian Plus one...you stuff it yourself. Though it comes with stuffing, you can put whatever in it. Won't be sure if it's a good idea until Thanksgiving, though.

Gardein is pretty hit or miss for me. Their plain stuff is really freaking good. Anytime they try to do more than bread something, I contemplate if anybody is even testing this stuff because it's so damn awful.

I had one tonight. It was disgusting. You're right: the stuffing was pasty, and the breading was gross. I've had the Field Roast at a restaurant, and I like that better.
