It's my boyfriend and my anniversary this weekend, and i'm trying to think of something nice to bake. I bought a love heart shaped cookie cutter, so i'll definitely do something with that...what kind of cookies do you think scream "I LOVE YOU!"?
I think he'll be working a night shift friday night, so he'll be too asleep for breakfast, then i'm working a day shift on the saturday, and we're going out to dinner at a bit of a fancy place, so all other meals are kinda covered...but he does love cookies and cupcakes and the like.
Come on oh wise ones, what are your favourite love-sweets?

I think vanilla cupcakes with strawberry filling and strawberry buttercream are pretty cute. Or you could do a little fruit platter and use the cookie cutter to cut the fruit into little shapes.

Sugar cookies cut into the shape of a heart... you could frost them with cute sayings. Too cheesey?! There is a good recipe in VwaV.
Or nothing says LOVE like a chocolate covered strawberry!

I was going to suggest vwav black out cake for an elegant and romantic dessert, but then you mentioned your cookie cutter. Did you know that if you are a little bit careful and chill the dough you can cut out the chewy chocolate raspberry cookies from V'con? Then, if you want to be really fancy, you could sandwich them with raspberry butter cream and/or dip them in melted chocolate. But really, chocolate covered strawberries always make me swoon.

I second the suggestion for the blackout cake, AMAZING!

I think your heart cut-outs are screaming for you to make a sandwich cookie! I made these the other day, subbing hazelnuts, then spread chocoreale for the most divine nutella-esque cookie experience! Seriously. So good!

what are his favorite cookies?
My boyfriend doesn't like chocolate much so I usually make him peanut butter ones, and he likes the carrot raisin ones lemon glaze from VCIYCJ.
If he DID like chocolate, I'd make the chocolate crinkles-- not sure if that'd be easy to make into heart shapes though. Peanut butter seem the easiest to roll and cut.

How about those apple gallettes? But maybe with a red fruit?

As far as cookies go, for appearance, linzer cookies with raspberry or chocolate filling are totally cute, though maybe too cheesy: Instead of straight up sandwich cookies, how do you feel about ice cream or mousse sandwiches? Perhaps using brownies instead of cookies? You could also use the cookie cutter on puff pastry for napoleons, or shortbread for a strawberry shortcake rendition. Also, heart-shaped hand-pies/pop-tarts could be quite lovely. If you are going to make a tart or cake of some kind as well, I can't help but suggest Millennium's chocolate almond midnight.

Argh, these are all such good ideas!! Thanks everyone!
Am definitely going to do the choc-strawberries....if the weather holds up we're going to do a day-early picnic tomorrow and they'll be perfect!
I like the idea of sandwich cookies, those little jam hearts are gorgeous. He likes pretty much all cookies...so that makes it easier for me! Choc raspberry sounds pretty good, i'm gonna go check out the recipe now!
