i'm planning on making one for my Feminist group's get-together on Friday and i've never made one before! my dad made a lot of them when i was younger and i was planning on just improving it, so i'm wanting to make sure i've got the basics covered.
- what fruits would i be best off using in it? - coconut milk or coconut cream? - spices??
any help would be much appreciated! :)

Do you have 660 Curries? There are some fruit ones in there. One of them is a stewed pineapple curry that has raisins and chiles. I think I'd do a variation on that - pineapple, with chiles and cinnamon or maybe a bit of garam masala. Also a bit of brown sugar (or jaggery), and I think I'd drizzle or spoon some coconut cream on top. And if you have access to fresh herbs, a few sprigs of Thai basil or mint might be nice if you went the cinnamon route, rather than garam masala.
There are also recipes for banana, green papaya, pomegranate, guava, watermelon, and lots of mango, so I'd say anything tropical will probably work really well. (And I'd definitely go with coconut cream, not the "coconut beverage" by So Delicious. It will be richer, and that will work more nicely if you have spice in it.)

God, it's been years since I made a fruit curry...
Yes, put onions in. Dried apricot is good. I find pineapple a bit sickly, but banana is good.
I would also put some lentils or split peas in or something. Mmm...
