I know its new but has anyone tried the Gardein roast defrosted? I have a problem in that I'm going to be using my MIL's small oven and I need to jam it full of stuff. Everything else needs to be at 350 but the roast says 400. I'm considering defrostring it (IE it is in my fridge now) and cooking at 350, maybe ramping up to 400 for the last bit as I take everything else out.

Has anyone tried this? Wish me luck?

oh we didn't actually put ours in the freezer at all - bought it at TJs and put it in the fridge for a couple days and then cooked it. It was fine; I have some issues with the texture but doubt that had anything to do with being defrosted.

I wanted to follow up and say that it did well defrosted. No problems at all except the roast is a bit doughy/fragile defrosted. That is probably why the directions say not to defrost it prior to cooking. If you handle carefully, there should be no issues.

I also wanted to add that we tried the TJs roast last night and that definitely isn't the same as the gardein roast. The texture and taste and the dressing are different. The gardein roast is pretty ok, the TJs roast is kind of gross and I'll never buy it again.

Okay, I just made our TJs roast because I wanted to taste it without my partner there. And while it isn't terrible, it is not something I would seek out or serve others. Field Roast en Croute for us!

If you like a lightly seasoned roast, the gardein one may work for you. My mother in law liked it a lot. I'm a tofurkey for life girl (I bought 2 roasts today).
