Mmm.. I had my first durian in Vietnam six years ago. It was really creamy and fragrant. It's definitely not for everyone. The best way I can describe the smell is a blend of sweet smelling vomit and raw onion. The taste though is rich and custardy. Those were pregan days so I had durian ice cream while I was there, too-- very good.
I then had freeze-dried durian in Thailand a couple years later and didn't like it at all.
