for those of you who like/drink coffee that is. I'm going to be needing to replace my coffee maker soon and I want something super fantastic. I've googled and googled and read reviews and what not but I'm just as confused as ever. I have a regular boring ol' drip coffee maker now. I want a Keurig so bad it hurts but I don't think I can justify the $$ for a product that gets such horid reliability reviews. It seems I'd have a 50/50 chance of it not lasting for more than 2 weeks-4 months. While the company does replace the broken one, sometimes the replacement breaks to! No thanks. So what then...french press, cold brew.....what? What does the PPK recommend?

My mom has had a Keurig for almost 4 years. She uses it several times a day and has never had any problems. She loves it. If it did go, she would buy a new one immediately.
If you get it at Costco, they guarantee everything they sell except some electronics for a year--you just take it back to them if anything happens to it in that time and they replace it or issue a refund.

I love the hell out of my AeroPress for making single person servings of coffee.
I've tried a lot of different things but in terms of producing consistently good coffee and being low on the hassle scale (tiny, easy to clean) it's the one for me.

I just use a Melitta filter cone and unbleached filters.

We have a Bunn that is amazing. It's the only brand of drip coffee maker I'd buy after working with their machines in restaurants.

im not that big coffee fan and if i drink coffee it has to be really good. what i like the most is coffee made with a bodum press or a moka pot. and both are not expensive at all...

I have tried so many methods and machines, but either the coffee tastes absolutely horrible or the gadget was way too expensive. I will never in my life buy another coffee maker but will only use my French Press - the coffee is awesome.

I also really think pressed coffee is better than drip. Its so much smoother, and you don't have to buy extra filters, etc. Really, for drip coffee to even come close, you'd have to spend so much more money.

another vote here for a french press. i really do think they make the best coffee ever and you never have to buy filters. a french press is also less expensive than fancy coffee makers and it takes up way less space.

My dad's Keurig stopped working after a year and a half. He emailed them and they sent him a replacement. Then I bought one - I had been using a french press (I put the drip in storage when he left town for work) but the thing is - my husband makes the worst coffee you have ever had.
Also, you can use a 20% of Bed Bath and Beyond coupon on a keurig :)
My french press is a bodum.

Drip cone with an unbleached cotton filter or the little French press for single cups. About at low-tech as you can get and both make fantastic coffee.

I've wanted a Chemex for awhile, but isn't the cord on it leather?

I have had various coffee machines over the years, and none of them have made coffee as well as the french press I have now.

i've had my keurig for almost 10 years. it's only now starting to give me problems - nothing major, but it's not really making a full cup of coffee. but i feel like it definitely was worth it and i will totally get another one.

so now I'm back to deciding between the Keurig ( still ) and a french press.....oh bother! :-) Maybe I'll have to just get both.

Get the French press. If you get the Keurig, you're stuck using those silly, wasteful k-cups. With the french press, you have an unlimited selection of coffee and produce less waste. Plus, if you want, you can grind your own beans for added freshness. And a good french press will last damn near forever.
Plus, a french press is more portable and doesn't require electricity, just some means to heat a kettle of water. So, if you have a French press, you can still enjoy coffee after the apocalypse. Just shank your neighbor for his stock of beans, heat your water over the burning remains of civilization, and enjoy.

You can full your own reusable k-cup with any coffee that you wish to use.

Plus, still no post-apocalyptic coffee. My mom uses it. She buys bulk beans and grinds what she wants. It just takes an extra minute or two, but its pretty easy. Supposedly you can also pack it with loose tea, but I'm not sure if she has tried that. My dad can't be bothered and likes weak coffee, so he uses the Dunkin Donuts K-cups. True, no coffee when the zombies come, but in the meantime, its quicker for lazy people. I don't like coffee at all unless it comes in a cup with ice, syrup, and lots of soy milk.
